I put Jazz in puppy kindergarten. They want them starting at 8 weeks. I was leery because he doesn't have all his vaccines yet, but they sterilize the place every evening and the kindergarten class is first thing in the morning.
I have taken him three times. He is 11 weeks old. Part of the class is to play with the other puppies. Today there was an adorable miniature pinscher puppy the same age as Jazz (about the size of a flea) and a German Shephard puppy almost 4 months old.
Jazz was playing with the mini pinscher puppy. I felt he was too rough and was worried about him hurting her when he pounced, especially on her back! I stopped him because the mini pinscher was overwhelmed by his goofy self.
On the other hand, The German Shephard puppy was overwhelmiing for Jazz. Jazz kept running to hide between my legs and then snapping at it to try and keep it away. I do not want him snapping at other dogs, but what the heck- the Shephard was a moose knocking him over and pulling his tail!
The instructor wanted me to move away and not let Jazz hide between my legs. She said he needed to learn how to handle that big puppy. I understood that, but hated to see him bullied and then get snappy. At the same time the mini pinscher was trying to hide in her owners legs and snapping at Jazz! The Shephard ignored the pinscher.
Finally the instructor threw a ball for them and Jazz ran after the ball, trotting proudly with it until the Shephard stole it away.
How can this possibly be good for him to either bully a little dog or be bullied by a bigger dog? I do not want to turn him into a snappy, scared dog! He is so bold and happy right now.
I felt like protecting him because he is a baby, but bowed to the instructor to let him work it out. When I grabbed him away from the mini pinscher when he was being a butt to her, the intructor told me to let the pinscher work it out, too.
