Hi all,
My MP (15 months old) had a laparoscopic spay on Wednesday, all went well, but we have a couple of issues I’m worrying about. She has been fairly quiet and subdued, but it’s is only 48 hours since the op. She is eating fine, and doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort other than itching.
Brought her home Wednesday evening, but she didn’t toilet until midday the following day, and she hasn’t toileted since. I have of course spoken with the vets, but that was just before she did finally go yesterday. I will be calling again in a couple of hours if she hasn’t gone again, but was wondering if it is fairly normal? She also isn’t drinking, but we are getting around that by adding plenty of water to her small meals through the day, so I’m not worried about dehydration (It’s very hot here, UK heatwave). She’s eating fine.
Second, she is very itchy and frantically trying to nibble and scratch. She initially had a cone on, but has scratched herself raw above the wound site where she could reach. She is now wearing a cut down tshirt to stop the scratching, but I was wondering if there are any creams or ointments I can safely use to reduce the itching where she has scratched - it is red and raw in patches. I will ask the vet about it if we need to call them about the peeing issue, but if there’s something I can just pick up locally that would be useful, I’m thinking an Aloe Vera gel or something like that? Any recommendations?
