Normie's ears are red - infection or ear plucking?

I just noticed that both Normie's ears are red.

They don't seem painful, they're the same warm temperature as his tummy, and there's no odor. He's not rubbing them and seems relaxed.

The groomer plucked ear hair on Tuesday and today is Friday. Today he had an active warm day at doggy play.

Is this an ear infection that requires a trip to the vet or just angry plucked ears?

I don't think it is an infection, but I would watch over the next couple of days to make sure things settle down.

The ear thing can be very different for differnt dogs. Lily has never needed ear plucking and never had an ear problem. Javelin has a much denser and curlier/coarser coat. He has poor drainage of his ear wax despite my attentions. I am hoping things will finally be under better control after his Claro treatment over the last month. The vet thought his ears were atrocious (I agreed, was sort of embarrassed to have him seen). The Claro stays in the ears and you don't do anything for 30 days. The vet also deep cleaned just before they placed the medication. The mess definitely dried out and we just passed the 30 days for the treatment. My orders now are to zymox clean every day and to do light plucking once a week. Hopefully this will do the trick. Dianaleez I don't think this is important for you with Normie but I mentioned it here for anyone else who has a dog with challenging ear care issues.

Lily spoiled me with how easy her ear care is (basically benign neglect). Javelin's ears have been challenging to say the least.

That 1000% looked like her ears post plucking. Angry plucked ears. Basil's ears definitely warm and red/pink following her first plucking.

From that point, I could start to calibrate how much pressure or hair to grab per pinch, and how long a session could last, so future pluckings could cause less irriation.

By the 5th day or so the physical signs of irritation started to go down... So I imagine you will be turning the corner soon.

A bottle of powder is $6 (ÂŁ4.3) if you want to do it at home. The other DIY furparents here gave me some really good advice that we could share if you want.

You're right. Today they're his normal cream color. Over-anxious mama?
