Did you ask me to do something?

Didn't hear that.

...Little man didn't want to pee by candle light
I can picture him peeing on the candle if you look away.

Maybe it's the age. Bella is nearly exactly the same age as Leonard. I used to be able to say go pee go potty when I go to bed at 10pm, and she'd do it. Now she pretends she has an itch and will scratch herself. Then she walks out the bathroom and waits for the cat to come in. If I close the bathroom door to lock us in, she stares at the door knob, then at me, then back at the knob. So then I let the cat in and repeat the command. Now the cat has learned it and will go sit on the pee pad and stare at Bella who then again pretends she has an itch, then fetches a toy and brings it to me.

Exhausted, I take her to bed. Like clockwork she wakes me up an hour later, to either play or if I'm lucky, to go pee. By that time it's time I'm wide awake for Steven Colbert to come on TV and we end up watching him together.

Maybe she's a Colbert fan... :)

It's definitely the age, Len had decided he can wake me more than once a nite to poo and pee, I was not having it. I give him ten minutes to do both, I get he has a wee bladder so when I get up at midnight or so to pee so can he, then it's back to his crate. I go to bed a nine and get up at four, I make him pee at 8:30p.m.

Of course now Len has decided he can bark at any noise:rolffleyes: not happening either little dude... hush

I find it a bit funny, I am remembering to keep my sense of humor with him.

You will do just fine, better to vent with us than to get mad at him.

Thanks Catherine, I know we'll get through this. It helps when I say to him "Leonard stop being a d*i*c*k*, just because you have one don't mean you gotta be one" It cracks me up. And if it's too much, Len gets a time out in his crate and I get to walk away.
This will pass, I have my beautiful, more importantly healthy boy with a marvelous temperament.

Yeah, if it doesn't disrupt your sleep too much, just turn on a late show on the Internet with him cuddled in your lap. Before it's over, I find we're usually both ready to go back to bed. This works well for me anyway.

The only thing that concerns me if in the future, I become very sick with the flu, etc, and really need to rest. In that case I guess I'll have my neighbor/dogsitter who lives in my building pick up Bella.

Poppy is a teenage girl version of Leonard lately.......not with peeing issues, but with the not listening, not obeying, LOTS OF BARKING AT EVERYTHING, generally forgetting EVERYTHING we have ever worked on. Sigh.........

I genuinely feel for you and hope it ends soon.

Cathy and teenage Poppy!

Oi MollyMuiMa is right

This to shall pass

I did manage to nip the peeing in the bud, I need to watch Leonard like a hawk for a while it's a bit tiring but my wise vet told easier to teach Len what exceptable now, than desperately trying to undo it. And Catherine's words of "Dogs do not generalize", so I've been taking Len to the pee pad in the middle of the night with only night lights on.

And the barking "Hush Poppy listen to your Mom"

Leonard is my fourth puppy. His big sisters Beatrice and Pia are 3 1/2 yr old and 4 yrs old. It is so worth it and you can come here and vent like I am, when it gets a bit much and laugh.

Ah, I remember that moment. Sophy, who was a very obliging puppy, hit adolescence one day and instead of running to me instantly when called stood still and considered whether she wanted to stay where she was more than she wanted to do as she was asked. She also developed all the other teenage tricks - the canine equivalents of eyes rolled heavenwards and talking V-e-r-y S-l-o-w-l-y with Capital Letters so the stupid human grown up might understand. Have fun - "This too shall pass" became my mantra for a while!

Yep just another bump in the road, this too shall pass. Reno is good about p & poo but then he is a big guy. He goes out at 8:30 -9 and then off to his crate for the night up @ 6:30. Last night I wasn't feeling well he had good at 5:30 and really sad have gone again, we were out at (;30 I fell asleep in my chair. He just peed and off to bed. This morning we walked 1/4 mile when we first got up as the rain was soon to start. This will be a long day because he will not want to sleep in and I'm still so dizzy that I do. He also is learning to unlearn his recall...I have to work on that. Hope this phase goes by quickly .

Mufar do not let your boy "unlearn" his recall. If needed pay him lavishly every time he arrives promptly and if he ever blows you off put him back on leash to reinstall it and make it clear to him that he is not allowed to give a second thought to whether he should come or not.

I still have to leash my 12 year old about once a year to remind him that, "come", and the hand signal means come.Talk about being offended! As soon as I put the leash on him and we do a very short review, he won't make eye contact. When we finish though, he is good for another six months. After he hit ten, I thought maybe his vision and hearing were going, but he can hear string cheese being unwrapped from across the yard. So, it is just his version of civil disobedience rearing its ugly head. In a bittersweet way, I am grateful that he still has the mental acuity to blow me off.

I used to argue with Sophy until I realised that Sophy is Always Right. She knows the best way back to wherever we are staying, can find the car when I have forgotten where I parked it, locates water almost anywhere (even if it means taking a detour into a cafe), could no doubt feed herself with hunting and scavenging, and is generally highly efficient and effective. If I were not responsible for paying the bills it would be hard to justify why I am still the one in charge!

Charmed, I will thank him, Leonard is a turd at times but he really is a good boy, as is Pia whom I have to remind her to come along as well, she is laughing at me where Len just out and put ignores me.
