Hello, my name is Kait. I don’t have a poodle yet, but I’ve been in talks with a breeder and it’s looking like pending me meeting the hopeful dam and sire we will be on a list for a puppy from a litter planned to be bred in late August/Early September 🙂. I’ve been reading up about the breed for quite a few months now to prepare and my partner and I are excited for a new addition to our family to grow up with our three kids!

We can’t wait. It’s sounding like pup would come home late December/early January providing all goes as planned with the litter. The breeder has a summer litter planned too, but after discussing with her we agreed the later litter is more likely to be a fit for our family based on the temperaments of the prospective parent dogs. The summer litter is planned from dogs who are little more high strung. Perfect show dogs she said, but the fall litter she said the parents are both better with kids and other animals (we also have a cat at home) and more what she would recommend for a family with small children.

Standard, but on the smaller side of standard. The stud dog is 17”, and there are two possibilities for the dam. The breeder has a female about to turn 2 who she’s hoping to breed, pending health test results. Genetic tests all look good, but of course some testing can’t be done until after she turns two. All the results would be done before the fall, and she’ll only be bred if all is well. She’s 17” as well. The other dam is one she’s bred before and already has all the health clearances on, and she’s about 18.5”.

Hi Kait! I'd recommend you stick around here until you get your poodle! And then continue to be a valuable member once you do! I joined and hung out here after my puppy was born. As you can see, I'm still here. I learned a lot in those 2 months, and still learn something daily! A book was recommended by the members here, and now I would also recommend it to you. Get a hardcopy of Ian Dunbar's 'Before and After Getting Your Puppy'. Available on Amazon. It's an easy read, but has so much valuable information.

Welcome Kait and your future “easy keeper” poodle puppy. I joined PF a few months before I got Buck and the Forum has been the best, most authoritative and responsive resource. I had no idea what I was doing, as it was a new breed!. Do the reading, especially on training. Excited for you and your family!

I’m also totally new to the breed! I actually posted in the finding a puppy/breeder section about the breeder I think we’re going with too, because I want to be sure my novice eyes aren’t missing something.
I’ve been reading non stop for a few months, on training, grooming, and health issues. I’m a bit of an obsessive planner I suppose you could say 😂. I know I still have lots to learn though so I’m glad I’m here!
