Clipper Blades

I am getting ready to buy the AGC2 clippers, but I am slightly confused on if I need to buy blades, which kind, etc etc.

My poodle has very thick fur and normally we just shave him short all one length, but the clippers we have take sooooooooooooo long. (I have no idea what kind they are, just something we had laying around) I have let him grow out to chewbacca type length over winter, but I am super sick of his 3 hours comb out in the evenings. I am no pro, and I really don't think I will be doing anything other than shaving him all to one more manageable length.

Also what clippers are recommended for fft? Will the Andis be too powerful/big?for this?

Thanks so much!

Yes, you need to buy blades for this clipper. It is confusing. There are charts which list what blades are available and what length and purpose they are used.

My favorite is a 5fc which leaves hair 1/4” long and leaves a smooth finish. I have two because the blades get so hot during clipping sometimes that I find it easier to switch them and let the hot blade cool down instead of spraying it to cool it down. My dog has a very thick coat that other clippers couldn’t cut through.

I have a minipoo. When I took her to the professional groomer, she did wonderful poodle feet using her AGC2 clippers. I find them too heavy to do anything but the main body of my dog. I bought the bravura to do face, feet and sanitary but I hated doing her feet. Years ago I had a tpoo who I used a cheap clipper from Walmart to do all her grooming including her feet. So you can use any of the full size clippers to do feet. However I bought a miniArco which is very similar to the miniBravura to do my minipoo feet and it’s so much easier with the narrower blade.
