Hi All

I have a toy poodle puppy and a nice metal comb....I understand there is a super pricey slicker that everyone "loves" but I was wondering if there was a slightly less expensive one that would be almost as awesome...

Thanks in advance :)

I use a #1 AllSystems brush recommended by Javelin's breeders who are also excellent groomers. You can find them at a bunch of places on line, including Amazon and grooming product sites like Cherrybrook.

I have always wanted to get that pin brush Lily CD Re has, and just haven't yet. Great company.

A lovely soft slicker is the Doggyman. It's been around a very long time. I love my soft Andis slicker and the double-sided Artero slicker @Basil_the_Spoo's papa also has. His is the slightly harder and larger one and mine is smaller and supposedly a bit softer.

ARTERO Double Flexible Slicker (Small) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XPPM7B8

Check any slicker by running it up the inside of your forearm. If it hurts, it's good to avoid. Still, use slickers with a light touch. Also, Artero has a slicker with balls on the tips that I just love. Every one of my slickers works a bit differently, though I didn't necessarily realize that starting out.

For pin brushes, I love my soft Madan and CC wood pin, the latter especially during drying.

ETA link for the Doggyman at Amazon. (Btw, I buy pet products many places, not just here.)

I have that super expensive slicker everyone loves. Yes, I love it, but it's not my main workhorse. Noelle likes a very cheap slicker brush. CONAIRPRO Soft Dog Slicker Brush, Medium - Chewy.com It's soft and doesn't scratch her skin. I also have a metal comb. Daily line brush out is grooming spray, metal comb, soft slicker on any tangles. I use my expensive slicker to fluff her when everything is all brushed out.

Noelle likes this cheap slicker brush on the back of her neck especially. It's a gentle massage when I line brush. I think she'd let me spend two hours brushing her neck and just completely relax.

I’m in favor of the expensive one. So is Phoebe. I have a show tech “soft” style also, and though they look almost identical, and feel identical on my arm (testing scratchiness), the coral slicker does not pull or get caught like the blue slicker. It removes tangles easier, somehow? I don’t think it’s just in my head. The boys have been learning to brush her. One asked to use the blue one, then said after a few strokes, hey can I use that pink one? This one isn’t as good. And they don’t know that it costs 4x as much as the blue one.

Apparently some dogs are more sensitive than others. Wilson pulls away from the CC coral brush, but leans into the Activet. It won't help you any though, because that one is just as pricey. My Coral has since snapped right in half (across the bed of the brush) and I got my kid to gorilla glue it back together. I am still using it as my "dirty" brush... on the poodles that are not picky.
