Hi guys, I’m pretty new here, and I am getting my toy poodle (2 months old) next week. I have a question regarding his fur. It doesn’t look like his fur is curled up like others I have seen at a similar age. I am wondering whether he is going to curl up, or is he going to be like this for his entire life? Or may be can he not be a purebred? (The breeder I am getting him from is a well-known and a trustworthy one in my country). Attached is his photo and his parents. May the parents be not purebred due to his not-so-curly white fur? Thanks a lot.

Hello and welcome, Bao! Your puppy is adorable and looks very poodley to me. There are probably two things going on: 1) he has his puppy coat, which has a softer, looser texture than an adult coat; and 2) some colors are known to have courser, woolier coats than other colors. For example, white and black poodles tend to have the breed standard coat, whereas often brown poodles (like my brown parti) has a wavier texture. His coat will probably end up like his parents'.

What a darling puppy! I agree with Liz - to me his coat looks very typical for an apricot poodle pup.

The puppy fluff is wonderfully soft and you'll enjoy cuddling your new best friend.

There are several threads here on 'coat change' so you can read up on what to expect.

Different bloodlines have different results. As a rule poodles should have a nice curly coat by 18 months old. My 6 month old male poodle only has curly hair on his back. Each time I get him groomed he has more curls. My 3.5 month old female has wavy curls all over. I was told to begin grooming my puppies at a young age to encourage the curly hair.
