What kind of collar is recommended for an 8-month-old miniature poodle? We do not plan to show her, but she is groomed with a puppy cut that is similar to a show cut so that she will always have fairly long hair around the neck area. Rolled leather, silk?
I use rolled leather on Beckie and it’s perfect. They’re inexpensive and last very long. I had her name and phone number put directly on the collar, which is a plus.
My miniature poodle is in show coat, so I bought a collar from The Quilted Hound for her. It is a 3 inch wide silk collar with a chain that is encased in a band of ribbon in the middle so the chain never touches her coat. Not cheap, but worth every penny to protect neck hair.
The key is to not leave the collar on in the house. For a pet dog just wearing a collar for walks it probably doesn't really matter what kind of collar you use unless your dog naturally matts quickly or during coat change if he's having issues.
