A breeder has pups that came out from Ch Sire and Ch Dam. It is the repeat breeding. Sire 5 years, Dam 4 years old. Sire is HIPS Excellent , Dam preliminary was Good, than it came Fair when she was in a heat . Breeder tells that Vet told her it was because of hormones (hmmm...). Should she waited and not proceed with breeding until hips were confirmed Good ??? I know that if I was a breeder I would wait...but....

What was the breeders reason for not testing the hips again at ages 2-4 years ? That just sounds weird.

I am still waiting for details about it :rolffleyes: I could not find Dam on OFA site and that alarmed me since she was bred last year and must have had those done already 2008 so I asked for results. Why Sire was listed at OFA and Dam was not ? It raised red flag to me :rolffleyes: . Could it be that she did not post results since they are "not so great " ?? Will try to dig more ; ) !

Sounds odd. If the bitch is 4 yrs old, why did they wait until she was in heat to retest her? Poor planning if nothing else.

If she is OFA Fair (a passing rating) then she should have an entry on the OFA database. No entry makes me think the films were not read by OFA.

Just a note.... lets all remember that FAIR is a passing hip score. It would be appropriate to breed a FAIR with a history of good or better hips behind it to an EXCELLENT.

Well, I got faxed results and although I got a bunch of results , ONLY 2 were concerning actual Sire and a Dam hwell:. All others were of the grandparents (parents of the Sire and a Dam). Eyes of the Sire were last time examined 2007 - that is the copy I got. I did not get copy of his hips or SA although the results are on the OFA site (EXCELLENT and NORMAL ), so I am still giving the lady benefit of a doubt - maybe she is too busy to send them all. She was surprised that Dam's results were not on the OFA site, but I got only OFA certificate for a thyroid panel from her.

In your opinion, should both dogs had their eyes checked THIS year ? As far as I know it is advised. Also, should both dogs be tested for SA ? And what about VWD - I thought both dogs should have genetic testing done on that !??

I would maybe be more lenient if warranty was longer than 2 years :rolffleyes:. The lady is very well known here , but maybe I should pass :smow:

Thanks for listening my rumbling : P ! I waited for soooo long to actually maybe get my spoo and really did so much research for couple of years - it would be silly to jump into the deal of 2000$ without all recent testing done (sigh...).

Both breeding dogs should have been tested for the following:

Hips
Eyes (within the last calendar year)
SA (usually every two years but at least once for both dogs)
VWB (unless clear by parentage)
Thyroid (within the last year)
NE (not important to you, but shows the breeder cares)

If these tested are not listed on OFA then she needs to show you direct proof of testing. DO NOT be swayed by reputation, pedigree or cute puppies on the ground. It is "industry standard" to do the above tests. Why give money to someone who is doing less?

BTW.... can you PM me the name of the breeder?

The bitch that bred my Jasper is fair and I don't care. The breeder friend of mine that I got Harry from flipped a lid when I told her but she was bred to a good and all of the dogs behind him are either good or excellent so I wasn't worried about it. She's going to be retested but again I'm not concerned.

Oh well... once more I discovered that if one "digs" deep enough and is persistent , one will find many "tricks" thrown at them :jaw: !!!! I do not even know why I try any more :doh:. I just can not believe that one can not find more than 3 breeders in CA, and one in TX that actually DO all of the tests AND do socialize pups AND do know their pup's temperaments AND do eliminate Ch dogs from breeding program if tests are not perfect AND have one litter a year at most ???!!!!!

At the end- Sire was tested only once for eyes and out of the USA and Dam was NEVER tested for eye problems : ((( ????!!!! So, deal is off - on my side, at least ...

I will stick with ones I found couple of years back - even if that means traveling to pick up a puppy and waiting - I am not in a hurry anyway - just got that "puppy itch" after seeing the pups photo - look REALLY beautiful...

I am so sorry that things didn't workout with this breeder. Where in California are you? The reason I am asking is because there is a big show in Northern California this weekend. It is held in Pleasanton and Saturday is Specialites and poodles are having theirs and on Sunday there is an all breed show. It would be a great opportunity to meet breeders....just a thougt.

I planed to go and enjoy site of "poodle beauties" an mass : ))) BTW breeder mentioned will be there too (sigh...) showing her dog :excruciating: so I can not mingle. Maybe I should go Sunday LOL and wear sunglasses even if it is raining ; )) !

I want to go to the show too, so badly, but don't know if I want to drive 1 hour each way. I also don't know if I want to go Saturday for specialties or Sunday for all breed. Ahh, decisions, decisions.
