Want to Get a Standard Brown Poodle Soon

2396 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Dogs4Life
Hey everyone!

I've grown up with dogs all my life and have always had an animal of some kind in my home. I've had a poodle Cairn Terrier mix that I loved so much. She recently passed at the age of 15 and was a wonderful dog.

I'm looking to get a standard poodle because of how beautiful, adaptable, smart, and fun they seem to be. I'm getting overwhelmed with trying to find a reputable breeder. I live in Miami, Florida and would love some help finding a breeder near me or a reputable one to ship.

Thanks for any and all input!

Do you have any breeders you are considering that you could provide info on? there are a number of folks here who are very good at checking out breeder web sites to look for good and not so good signs.

Welcome and I hope we can help you in your search.

Doesn't see very reputable and is charging 2000. Is that around what I should expect to pay? I don't want to show the dog or anything like that. Just want a healthy happy puppy.
I took a look at the "Precious Poodles" - I'm not at all impressed. No health testing mentioned at all.

Completely agree. She seems to be charging premium prices for sub-par services.

I don't know if 2000 is about what I should expect to pay, but that's what I've kind of budgeted for without knowing.
I would not get a puppy from that breeder. No mention of health testing. Claiming poodles are 'hypoallergenic' which is not true of any breed of dog. Less likely than other breeds to cause allergies? yes, but not hypoallergenic. "Champion bloodlines" means nothing. A lot can go wrong in 3 generations of poor breeding.
I know of someone that is planning a litter of blacks and browns that is very reputable. She is however on the other side of the country from you so you'd have to arrange to fly to pick up the pup or hire a nanny to bring the puppy to you. But I can give you her info if you want.

1500-2500 is pretty standard for a pet puppy from health tested, titled parents

$2,000-$2,800 is the going rate from titled, health tested parents in my area.

Hypoallergenic = less likely to cause allergies
A friend of mine got a lovely brown standard from Piccolo's Poodles 3 yrs ago and have been very happy with him. I have met him and He is quite lovely. My friend is quite thorough in researching breeders and has been happy with her choice of breeders and her pup. I believe that Piccolo's is in Maryland, if memory serves me.

Good luck with your puppy search...you will want to take your time and make the right decision. Maybe contact poodle club of america for breeder referrals....that is how I found my first breeder.
Here are a couple of contacts.

Orlando Poodle Club - Breeder Referral Contact is Maureen Peteler (954)651-5439; email is [email protected]

Tampa Bay Poodle Club - Breeder Referral Contact is Linda Tilka (727)647-2243; email is [email protected]

Both of those clubs also do poodle rescue if you are interested in that.

The web site for Orlando Poodle Club is Poodles, Orlando Poodle Club,Inc Events and Officers

The web site for Tampa Bay Poodle Club is TAMPA BAY POODLE CLUB - TBPC HOME

Good luck in your search!
