I read so many different things on this I am truly having a hard time with what I should/should not do.

SO my questions to ALL would be in regards to yearly (after the first year shots)- what do you do with your dogs for monthly or yearly PM? I know some states vary this question in regards to rabies.

Also what do you use if anything for a heart worm medication and fleas?

I hear of the downside in some of this now with cancers etc and it concerns me, AS Well how do the Vets feel about these things? I know when I mention breeder mine rolls his eyes, just being honest and it can be hard at times to get the questions answered that I want so I am learning to change my delivery on that because I respect and have learned a lot from breeders and many on here.

This is just what I do, and I am positive people will disagree. People get very passionate about their opinons on these matters, and I'm not interested in a debate, just giving you MY opinion.

As you know I work for a vet and take Flip with me just about every day...so he is exposed to a lot of things other dogs might not be, so bear that in mind.

Yearly, I do DHLPP-C (distemper), and will be doing a heartworm I live in a state with a lot of mosquitos. This coming rabies will be a three year, I will likely do Lymes in the summer, and I have to do Bordatella because he is exposed to the virus frequently.
I give him a heartguard and frontline plus once per month as well.

There are folks on this board who don't believe in vaccinating at all, and like children, this is their decision, I just hope they don't take their dogs out where they are exposed to such things frequently. We are really seeing a 'comeback' of distemper and parvo lately, whichi is likely a result of the 'anti-vaccination' people. When I first started as a tech, I very very rarely saw any diseases like distemper and parvo, and when we did it was in the very rural areas (we did housecalls, etc.) of the state. I know I'll get flamed for this, but I'm just giving my opinion. There is no way in heck I would let my dogs go unvaccinated, period. This goes for our cat too...and mom's horses.

I try to go easy on the vaccines with my dog (and future dogs). I do however take my dog out alot and he is exposed to alot. I want him protected, and i for one Believe in vaccines (not all of them). Riley is vaccinated for rabies- 3 year (law to have it here), distemper- 3 year, and lepto. I dont give him lymes, and we dont even carry that vaccine as we have seen so many reactions to it. Lepto is coming back in a big way around my area. I track with Riley alot, and we go to forest preserves, parks, have wild animals in our yard, etc. Those are the vaccinations i give him, and the ones i will give my future dogs depending on where i live (why give lepto if it is not a problem near you).

I absolutely give monthly year round heartworm treatment. HW can do so much damage (besides death) that i dont chance that. I use heartgard, iverheart, and sentinel (depending on which rep. gives us free product ). I use frontline plus if needed for ticks.

I am very conservative with my vaccination schedule. I completely stopped any and all vaccinations on my now 12 year 7 months old cat when she was 4 years old. My dogs get the required rabies vaccines every three years and Romeo, my cream standard male got that, but not any booster shots. My red standard and my havanese are both going to need their rabies this year along with booster shots, so they will get that and along all three dogs will get titers. We are out and about all the time and go to the dog park twice a day most days. I also don't give my dogs flea preventative unless I see flees or flea dirt.

We do the 3 year rabies, 3 year DHPP (No Lepto), and Bordatella. We didn't do Lyme this year, because her appt was in December, but I am researching that one a bit more. Cricket is on Heartgard Plus for Heartworm prevention, and Frontline for fleas and ticks(only in the spring/ summer). I plan to do the same for Clover. Clover has an appt on Tuesday for her boosters, and she will get the DHPP & Coronavirus I think. She will get her Rabies between 12-16 weeks sometime.

In SC as far as I know rabies is every year, or so my Vet says so.......anyone know any different on that? I know NC is now 2 or 3 I think.
I am planning (spoos/poms do) to do the front line or flea/tick in the spring, summer and some fall as well as needed.
Heartworm we do - but I hear some have stopped this. My Vet requires that the dog is tested for heartworm if the dog misses one dose. We never have but we have been warned.

The only routine vaccine I do is rabies. Midnight got distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus when she was three. I will give her these shots one more time when she is eight.
She gets a monthly Heartgard tablet for heartworm prevention.
I don't have to use flea meds. She never has a problem with them.

In NC rabies is given at 4 months then one year later, after that every three years. Don't know what the heck i am going to do on the yearly vaccines, there is so much controversy and my dogs go everywhere with me. Frankly it would be hard for me to handle if something happen to one because I chose not to give the yearly vaccine.

After the first year booster, I follow the law on the rabies and I might revaccinate everything at three years (or I might not depending on what the risk factors are for the particular dog and my lifestyle at the time). After that we are done. Bordatella as needed. If showing a dog I used to get the bordatella once a year. Heartworm monthly. Flea meds only needed if you live somewhere there are fleas. Different stuff works different ways depending on the local fleas.

My 8 yr. old Poodles are done with everything - won't be getting a rabies vac, either. Lucia got her parvo, distemper, adenoviris booster, and will be getting the rabies vac in Feb. Then she's done for good. I have a homeopathic doctor and vet who will sign off on the rabies certificate.

With cats, I've learned that vaccinations were either a death sentence, or a limited life span, often w/disease. Babe, last cat of a litter of 5 plus mom, was just shy of her 28th birthday when she passed in her sleep. They all lived to be in their mid twenties, with one 19 yrs. old, and after their kitten vacs, that was it, no more vaccinations of any kind. All were healthy, active cats, who never required vet treatment other than one (Babe) who needed her teeth cleaned, and one extracted - hated to do it, too because she was 26 yrs. old, but we had to. She recovered quickly, thank heavens. And yes, sometimes they went outside with us on the patio, but were inside house cats all of their lives.
