Have not posted to these boards since 2008. My now 12 year old miniature poodle, Lucy, is in excellent health, however, for the past couple of months she has been licking her anal area to the point where her coat is saliva stained in that area and hair is not growing well. Had her anal glands expressed but that has not helped. Yesterday, I took a really good look and found that she has a papilloma or wart under her tail very near the anus. She has had 4 other warts cauterized with success, however, this one is in such a sensitive area, I am hesitant to proceed this way. Any advice would be appreciated.

I noticed Mitch had a wart in his mouth and then right before we went to the vet, it disappeared. I told my vet that he must've bit it off or something, but he said that the immune system will get rid of it. It may take a few weeks, but it should go away on its own.

I would do anal glands every 2 weeks. I would also go to a specialist and put an end to the problem. She will have a long healthy life ahead of her. That HAS to be annoying to her.
