yup, it really does need to come out, as a retained teste is rather likely to become cancerous, so once he's big enough to go under, get it out!! The length of an op is fine, as long as the vet and anaesthetist is experienced and good at their jobs, many lil guys can need lengthy operations for other things and do perfectly fine! I've had my *rats* operated on for fairly lengthy operations before and they've been fine, and they're not all even half a pound!!! lol
