Toy Poodle Puppy Harness

Hi. Someone recently posted a question about secure harnesses for toy poodles and I gave some recommendations over there. This is the post.
I had a lot of trouble finding harnesses that fit Sophie, especially when she was younger. Even now, she is very tiny and even the XXS Ruffwear Front Range Harness that I love is way too big for her. The ones I recommended fit. I got a cat harness when she was very young.

These are my recommendations from that post.

• Lunine Roman Harness. Pro: Very secure. Con: A little bit of a hassle to take off if you have the neck adjusted fairly close. There are multiple options, including reflective and holiday. If yo take photos in the park, the harness doesn't overpower the photo. They have cute prints. MicroBatch Roman Dog Harness
• Bond and Co harness from Petco. They have several colors. They are mesh and comfortable and easy to take on and off. Very secure. XS/S fits our little ones and it's the only size. • Buddy Belts. I have one on order. I have not used it yet. I am getting it because it will be easy to take on and off, won't overpower photos, and is escape proof. Are you inquiring about a safety harness for car travel or a walking harness?. They're not necessarily the same thing.

Where are you located, country or region? Our suggestions may not be helpful if we don't have a general idea of whether our recommendations would be available to you.

That said, just for walking, when my mpoo boys were under about 6lbs I got a harness similar to the Petco choice above. Poodles are built a bit differently than many breeds so I was able to use the xx-small for a short while.

After they got a bit bigger this style didn't fit as well. It was riding up the chest to their throat which isn't good for small breeds.

After trying a couple of other styles I settled on a similar style to the Buddy Belt. The brand is Vel-Pro.

Yes. He's an adult miniature poodle who measures out to about 12-13" at the shoulder and runs between 12-13lbs. His current chest measurement is a snug but not tight 16.5". I have him in a Large in the Velpro.

The smallest the Velpro comes in is 11-12" chest so it won't fit for some time, if ever, depending on eventual growth.

The other design, the Bond and Co or the Doggie Design come smaller. This is my boys in the DD harness about two weeks after we brought them home. Their weight (chest measurement forgotten) was 4lb for the bigger and 3.2lb for the smaller at the time of the photo. (Plus fur ) The xx-small in these is a chest measurement (taken just behind the front legs) of 9-11". The Bond and Co xx-small is 10-12" so a bit bigger.


Twyla's suggestion of a cat or ferret harness might be your best bet at first, depending on the measurement. You'll likely go thru several harnesses til your pup reaches mature size.
