We're new to the formal poodle world. We purchased our first from a reputable breeder and her parents were registered. Our 1 year old however has fairly pronounced turned out front feet. It's quite noticeable when she walks, stands and a runs as well. Certainly more noticable than other poodles we look at. Would this be something a good breeder would have tested w an xray? Could it be an indicator that she may have bad elbows or could it lead to bad shoulders? Not sure how much to complain to our breeder who played it down. We worry in the long run we have a bit of a problem that later we can't do anything about.

At a year of age, it's common for Poodles to have easty westy feet; their chest typically hasn't dropped yet, and when that happens typically they turn back in. However, not always.

We cannot "test" or know if our puppies will turn out easty westy unless they were that way as babies. It usually just means they don't have the correct spring of rib, not anything to do with bad shoulders. The front assembly could still be straight, but typically that doesn't correlate with turned out feet, but I'll never say never.

Was your pup turned out as a baby? Still intact or altered?

That said, easty westy typically isn't anything to be too concerned about depending on age and severity. A year is still young so could definitely correct itself as your pup fills out and matures. But if not, it's still fairly common and usually not a detriment.

My bebe has excellent genes and he's a wonkasaurus rex. My breeder said don't look at his feet until he's 2 years old 😂

Sigh... easty westy feet. I find it helps if you squint a little and pretend it isn’t there. Violet is 21 months, fast and accurate on the agility field, and a bit easty westy. Vet is unconcerned. My advice: grow pompons.

This is so helpful thank you. We started to notice her toes turned out more as she aged but looking back at photos as a pup they were turned out. She's still intact as of now. It does appear like her chest has not dropped at all.
