Thoroughly disgusted

Well, after waiting for several months, through 2 breedings, I got screwed again. At this point, I guess there's no need to go into details but it really does not seem like I will ever own a Poodle. No matter what, something doesn't work out for me.

sorry to hear this. have no idea where you're located, but there are some litters being advertised at poodlesonline dot com. in order to list, parents must be health tested and quite a few breeders of merit are members. maybe check there?

Hang in there. Something will happen. I waited over a year for my Doberman and went on a waiting list. It hasn't really been all that long comparatively speaking. These things can and do take time. I know that doesn't help you feel any better but just to put it in perspective. It will happen for you. And after it does, you might just say, "I'm glad things happened the way they did because my puppy is STUPENDOUS!!!"

Maybe somebody can help you with other good breeders in your area. Increase your odds a little bit. It'll happen.

I'm sorry, Mish :( That is extremely disappointing. I really don't understand how it could be so hard to find a spoo.

Would you feel comfortable saying what state you're in (if you want someone close) and maybe someone knows a breeder. Or knows a good one who knows a good one if the first good one doesn't have any puppies. Or if there's a local poodle club you could ask. (?) Let's put our heads together here. We need a chain working this problem. In other words, someone knows someone who knows someone. When you go to a dog show or talk to someone in the poodle club or someone else who has a nice poodle, you might get a lot more leads that will lead you to right to your spoo.

Of course, no matter who you go through, they all need to be checked out thoroughly. And get references. This is going to happen! :amen:

I really can't understand how you are having such difficulty finding a puppy. I myself, and a number of friends, have all found breeders to work with and gotten puppies for years. And in several cases, more than one over time from the same breeder or multiple breeders. Do you have difficult or very specific requirements as to what you want that is making it so hard to connect with a breeder? Do you meet the requirements of many responsible breeders on their puppy questionnaires? I just don't get it.......

Without posting where you are from and what you are looking for, we can’t really help. I too am a bit astounded, I know many people with litters all the time. I have had multiple breeder friends offering me show puppies. Yes I did have to wait about 9 months to get my girl because I was picky, but if I hadn’t been looking for a particular puppy I could have gotten one within a very short time of starting to look.

I remember when I was looking for a breeder and came to this forum and posted about it, I couldn't wait to get back to the computer to see if anyone had some leads for me. I was so eager, just like the op. I checked every couple of hours to see if there were some responses. Of course, I had the time. But it's funny for 2 days to go by and....ah well. We tried. :dontknow:

Pb, Mish has been searching for a spoo for a long time and has had a LOT of leads from members here. But for some reason, nothing has worked out. I think many of us have been trying desperately how to figure out how to help Mish find a pup. I am frustrated for her and wish it wasn't so hard.

Hmm...I see. Well, maybe if we get some more information from Mish, we could be of more assistance in helping to find a good one. :)

Basically ..what the others have said..I think I read originally you were looking in the Philadelphia/NJ area. If you are I will ask a friend for a recommendation. Her mom has a poodle and knows her breeder and they had told me to let them know if I ever wanted a pup, but it is too far for me. There really are a number of puppies out there. When I was looking I found one, she actually had 2 puppies however after re evaluating them she felt they were a bit high strung for what I wanted (I wanted a pup that I could take to nursing homes for therapy) She had a friend who had a litter and recommended them as in fact while she was 4 hours away her friend was delivering a pup to her best friend who lives in the same town as me. Thats how I ended up with my guy, she just brought two extra pups with her for me to choose if I decided I wanted one. (that of course was smart business as who can turn away from a puppy). One of them usually has a puppy or a recommendation. What exactly are you looking for and where and I'm confident we can help find you a puppy.

Mufar I believe you are correct that Mish is in the Northeast since I think I referred her/him to Javelin's breeders. Contact was made and nothing came of it seemingly because there wasn't immediate availability of a puppy. I don't get it about why Mish is having such problems. There are quite a few good standard breeders in the Northeast. As Eclipse pointed out unless someone is actually looking for a unicorn finding a standard just shouldn't be hard.

Tangentially I was talking with a few students at the end of class last night. One of them while a very sweet polite young man is a bit of a spoiled person. He lives not far from me on the "rich side" of town. He is 19 years old and has very nice clothes and two Porsches given to him by his parents. He has no well developed sense of having to earn and wait for things he wants. He wishes for something and it appears. Having patience to wait for things one really wants is an important part of life and for this young man at some point he will learn that lesson (without much pain I hope). I waited over 25 years for my Lily (initially because I had a weird work schedule and no yard and no money, later more because of no yard). But I waited with no regrets because I wanted to have a good set of circumstances to do right by both of us.

I have to ask, Has each of these breeders returned your deposit?
Well, I could have had a nice puppy last year but the breeder freaked out because I could not personally go to pick it up. I had been waiting for that puppy all summer.
Then, I found this last breeder and was supposed to get a puppy from a litter last year but there weren’t enough. Ao, I was to be first on this list.
The fact that I could not go in person to visit or pick up the puppy was seemingly not an issue. I had told her what I wanted and kept in contact via email from the day the puppies were born. I thought it was a little strange that I was never told which puppy I was getting. I had specifically told the breeder that I did not want to be in a situation again, where I did not get the best temperament match because others wanted a specific color puppy and that’s exactly what happened. All along, I was under the impression that we were on the same page and a week before pickup, I found out that was not the case. I also believe that people who were able to visit, basically picked their puppies while they were there, even though I was trusting the breeder to pick the best puppy for me, as we discussed my needs and I was supposed to have first pick.
I also live in an area where my former vet, who treated my last 3 dogs and, who told me that nobody cared for their dogs better, also treats the dogs of a few Spoo breeders. I know my vet would give me good references. However, this little clique of breeders will not sell me a dog. I even attended an agility show to meet two of them. I don’t know what the issue is there. They use my former vet and they’re relatively local. I’d been in contact with one earlier this year and was supposedly first on her list too. Then, when i started asking a lot of questions about health in the pedigree, that was the end of it.

I am going to ask a lot of questions. I ask a lot of questions when i buy a car. I’m going to ask even more when I’m looking for a living thing, that is going to be part of my family for a long time. I think a lot of breeders are offended by it. However, in the case of this last one, who never told me she let owners choose by color alone, that was not the issue.

Are you able to consider other breeders people have mentioned on this website? I know there are others here who have gotten a dog based on personality and not just color. I also would place the importance of personality (and health) of a dog over the color of a dog.
Found on AKC site. Try contacting

https://marketplace.akc.org/breeder/dianecallahan/poodle/164641

D & D kennels From the website it appears they have several available, belong to the Lehigh Valley poodle Club and it appears area all health tested.

another Kennel Name: Tree Tops' Standard Poodles - Diana Caulfield
Breeder Name: Diana Caulfield
Location: Doylestown, PA 18901
Phone: 215-815-6506 (cell) 215-348-5565 (home) This seems to have a 1 year old.

There are several listed on the AKC site that have or will have puppies/dogs available. I have not checked out heath testing on on call but figure you can call.
I have a list of breeders from the breed club, that perform all the necessary testing. Neither of those look familiar. I have to check the list again but compared to the number of breeders actually out there, the list is very small. That’s why I’m having so much difficulty. Plus, the list is only for about a third of the country. There is no list like that for the rest of the US.

I’d be starting all over again and at this point, I’d have to read back through the discussions to see who they were. I have found breeders and I’ve done what I was supposed to do. They haven’t held up their end. I’ve gotten on lists but nothing ever materializes after that.
Have you checked with Poodle Club of America....they have a breeder referral contact. This is how I found Iris' breeder, who was great.

Yes. only about a third of the country is on one mist and I think I’ve exhausted most if not all of that list. There is no list for the other part of the country. You kind of have to pick an area then email for breeders. You have to go area by area and state by state.
