It's been a while since I've posted here, glad to be back !

I'm assuming this is the best place to post due to the fact that Jenna's age definitely plays a role. For the past year she has this cough that doesn't go away, it happens most when she lies down in awkward positions. It's pretty worrisome because her coughs turns into gagging.

We took her to the vet's in martintown ON, and can't seem to find anything irregular. ( normal heart, lungs, no signs of kennel cough.)

We were recommended to feed her bread with vaseline after an incident where she swallowed ( and threw up ) a bread clip which made the coughing worst but it hasn't done much to help stop the coughing.

Unfortunately with age she's gotten fatty tumours around her chest and my best guess is that there's one inside putting pressure on her throat. Any ideas what could be causing this ?

Collapsed Trachea?
Iv'e thought of this before but I found the symptoms were too obvious to be ignored.. now that I'm looking further into it it's definitely a possibility figuring that it can go on unsuspected for a while.

the only conflicting symptoms is she's very tolerant to exercise, is at a moderate weight, doesn't wheeze or has trouble breathing other when she's coughing..

Here's a youtube video I watched explaining the condition for those who want to know

That's a long time to have a cough, it's odd they can't find a reason for it. She is absolutely beautiful by the way, love her long gorgeous ears.

Sorry this is happening with your pretty girl. I would be beside myself to find an answer and some relief for my dog. Hope your vet figures it out soon!

I'd be very nervous to feed my dog Vaseline because she may aspirate it and that would be a disaster for her lungs. And it would only be treating the symptom, not finding out what's really going on. Did you consider getting a 2nd opinion? This would worry me very much. I think that link Dechi provided offers some serious food for thought. It seems there are some more diagnostics needed. I do hope something that is treatable is discovered. She just can't go on like this. I'm so sorry she has this trouble and that you have the job of trying to get to the bottom of it. Not easy.

Thank you all for the kind and helpful words I really appreciate it :)

I really agree that the next step will be a 2nd opinion but finding a trustworthy vet in my area is a big issue. I believe I'm better off finding a holistic vet that can work with me to get to the bottom of this. I'd really like to get a bronchoscopy done on her to get straight forward answers, unfortunately speculations can only go so far.

Thanks again ! I'll update on our progress

Is there a veterinary college anywhere around that you could consult with? They can be very good. I've used Washington State U in the past and a vet I was taking my Dobe to called on them a time or two to speak with a specialist.

Do keep us posted on any new developments. This is one of those things, I think where more detective work is needed in order to help make your baby more comfortable. It just sounds miserable. I do wish for you the best. Keep pressing these vets to get to the bottom of it. Sometimes doctors (of all kinds) brush things off when they can't find the cause. Treating symptoms is all fine and dandy when many things have been tried. But what if it's something serious? My heart is with you as you search for someone who can find a diagnosis and treatment.

Do you have a specialty vet hospital nearby? Instead of a holistic vet, I'd look for a specialist - hopefully your vet can recommend one. They will have equipment and tools for diagnosis that regular vets may not have access too.
