There was an ad in the local paper for a Free 10 month old dark red neutered male spoo and a $500 10 month old apricot intact male spoo. It turns out that a very new local breeder redstandsofcolorado.com and that she recently confiscated the spoos from the people who bought them from her because by contract they were supposed to take the dogs to obedience class but they didn't. She says that the new/old owner is just really rich and wanted to show off the dogs, Im not sure what she meant by that. She was asking for $ for the apricot because he was still intact.
For someone to adopt or buy one of the dogs they would have to sign a contract stating that the dogs would go through obedience class, she can drop in on the dogs at any point in their lives without notice and expects to get frequent photos, the dogs must always be well groomed (she is also a groomer), utd on shots and licenced, be inside dogs, and I can't remember what else. I was to suprised that she can just take the dogs if she doesn't like what she sees, such as a not well groomed dog. Is all this common? It seems a bit heavy handed to me. The fact that she can and did take dogs from their new owners bothers me. I understand breaking a contract but hers seems to subjective. From talking to her I learned that her dogs live in a kennel and she has a handler showing her red male right now and according to her he is doing well. Her red male is a looker from what I can see on the website. She said she didn't show her black bitch because she accidently cought on fire in her back yard when they were burning leaves.
Am I totally uneducated and this type of contract is actually the norm? I've only gotten spoos from not great breeders so maybe I just don't know how things usually are. Honestly, I am totally turned off by all this that I would never get a dog from her even if she had an amazing show prospect.
On a side note, she asked me that if one of her red pups were bred to one of my silver boys (they are getting fixed) if the pups would be pretty. Red to silver? Im no breeder but I imagine introducing a fading gene into a black and red like wouldn't be a good idea because of fading.
