The snow and ice are finally melting, so I planned the afternoon trip to collect groceries and fill up with petrol to also include a walk along the salt marshes, one of the dogs' favourite places. Sophy set off enthusiastically, explored for a bit, hung back to greet a nice dog and his owners, then sat down firmly and indicated she wanted to walk in the opposite direction. So off we went for all of 300 yards till the path ran out, when she happily set off back towards the car but refused to go past it - enough, she had decided, was enough. This from a dog who usually wants to keep going for at least three miles. As it was cold and soggy and not particularly pleasant walking I didn't argue - she is 12, after all, and is definitely allowed the occasional lazy day!
