Soo excited I have to share...

Bella's going to the snow! I finally found and confirmed a cabin in Big Bear for later this month. Woo! I can't wait to see what she thinks. She didn't like a wading pool this summer, but has embraced both the rain, and a spraying hose (does that dog thing where she tries to drink all the water until she coughs...at least she's not water-fearful!). And she seemed to like her one beach trip (ooh, such a bad momma, I need to get her back there!) I'm imagining some sort of pansy-LA poodle response of lifting her paws up high like "eew! what's THIS!" but then loving it after a few minutes.

So, those of you with real weather, I need help!

We're holding off on her grooming so her hair will be longer and shaggier for more warmth, but it will only have been 5 1/2 weeks so it won't be SUPER long for combing-out.

We're also NOT feeding her that morning since it's a 2 1/2 hour car ride with an hour up a mountain (ask me how I found out that 2 hours post-breakfast isn't long enough for mountain travel. Wait, don't ask. blech).

We're borrowing a mini-van, she has her car harness. I think we'll just bring the x-pen and fluffy bed (not crate as we never lock her in there, just in the pen with the crate inside of it). Though it's a pet-friendly cabin I wouldn't leave her roaming it unattended. It also has a fenced-yard so we can let her play off-leash! We took her camping over the summer, so she did find in the van that time, for an hour and a half. The hard part is she had to stay on-leash the entire weekend and we stayed in a trailer so space so super-limited.

I feel like a new mom taking my first trip. I'm so excited! Any suggestions are most welcome.

LOL... you definitely sound excited!!! And can't blame you. I bet you all have a GREAT time!! Don't forget to take lots of pics and share some. :)

She should be warm enough to play outside in the snow. Unless you plan on staying outside all day long and it is very frigid out. My spoos go out and romp in the snow for an hour or more sometimes and Grace is in continental clip so is bare butted and legged/ face & feet. IF you are concerned, bring along a doggie sweater or coat for her... and IF you are planning on taking long hikes where she will be out in the snow for a long period of time, and if her feet are shaved, I'd get doggie booties for her.

Have a GREAT time!!!! And don't forget the pics!
Thanks!

She's in a puppy cut and still has her puppy hair, so her feet, face & tail are shaved, but will be 5 1/2 weeks grown out by then. We won't take her hiking, but maybe for short walks. She does have a coat, but I think it's mostly for looks. :embarrassed: Any particular type of booties?

I wouldn't expect temperatures to go below 30s, if that. This week it's in the 40s.
Lots of towels and correct no food before travel.. Dogs always get sick ...At least on these roads they do. Heck take her hiking let her run ! Should be warm during the day..
We take ours up and turn em loose in the forest.... OMG do they love the freedom .....Does she come when you call then ?
If the temps are not going to get below 30 and you are letting her feet grow out for a few weeks, I wouldn't be concerned at all. Not for just taking a walk or for her romping in the fenced yard for a time. She should be fine. Good of you to be such a great mommy and be concerned about her welfare though! :)

And, I know what you mean about having a coat just for looks. We like putting stuff on ours for our fun sake too...lol. But, too much hair coat on our spoos to put anything on them. :)
Does she come when you call then ?
Only if she's got nothing better today or thinks there's food in it for her. :eek:hwell: We've got more training to do, for sure!
You have time .....make her some liver brownies. Ten when you call her and she comes give her one You will end up being number one priority :)

LOL, I'm afraid to ask the recipe.

It's all about the training, we've gotten lax on the 15 minutes a day we were told to do. She's VERY food motivated, but add to it the recent tummy troubles we were dialing back food and snacks...hopefully now that (I think) we've found a resolution we can get back on that.
