Small litter size

Hello,

I will soon be a standard poodle owner and I’m excited! However, the breeder that i am purchasing my new baby from had an very small litter. His dog only produced 2 standard poodle puppies, is this normal?

Thanks,

JB

I have had standard poodle litters as small as 1 puppy and as large as 14 puppies. I don't think either extreme is abnormal, just unusual. Knowing when, exactly, to breed is certainly not an exact science. The fact that there were just 2 in the litter probably has nothing to do with the sire, but with how many eggs were available when the breeding took place.
Wow! You seem to be very knowledgeable. Thanks!
