Scissoring question from newbie UPDATE UGH I DID IT

I’m doing the quarantine groom thing like so many and I am at the point where I need to start on my big hairy guys head and crest😱 I usually have my groomer take approx half his length off for summer. She told me on his head to comb it forward and cut with my straight shears across his forehead basically kind of at eye level then use rounded shears to shape as he has a blended top knot into his ears ( see pic below of brown boy) for his crest she said comb to one side and cut along the line already there. My question I realized I don’t understand is do I comb the ENTIRE top knot forward or just the front section and on mane do I comb ENTIRE thing to one side then to other or kinda part down middle and do each to its respective side? This is so daunting lol on his legs he has a good three inches or more but I’m going to use my clippers with a comb to do those per her suggestion as she said scissoring them would be too hard for me. But on head and mane I have to scissor so... thank you for any advice. Hoping to not butcher my beautiful boy to badly🤞🏻

Sue Zecco - TK starts about 15:40
You might be able to adapt her technique to that amazing cut :).

Ok well I tried lol all I can say is at least my groomers main lines are still there for her to eventually fix this mess and he has lost two inches plus of hair all over to make him cooler. Poor guy I’m pretty sure is super embarrassed. I give the biggest shoutout to groomers because clippers are one thing but scissoring is an ART!

You did great! I know it's not what you're used to but I think he looks amazing!
Thank you I wish I could of done better. The top knot is by far the hardest part and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to blend it to the ears. Still thinking once I bathe and blow dry and finish him
I might just try to cut the line in above the ear so it doesn’t look so choppy hanging over. I thought I tipped my groomer well but she’s getting a raise when this is all done!

I think you did a great job too, especially since it’s your first time. I always go back the next day to fix little things that I missed when I groomed.
You’ve done a great job! I love his mane!
