I don't know if there was a discussion about this already... if there was... I apologize....
I was on the AKC website and looked at the breed standard for poodles... it does not mention the color red as being one of the colors accepted for the breed standard.
For some reason I thought I read somewhere that red is now being accepted - is this true - or am I day dreaming again???

Somewhere along the line poodle fanciers had to have decided that they liked solid colors best. It is my (limited) understanding that the rising popularity of parti colors is a more reccent thing... say in the last 5-10 years some breeders have been trying to "bring them back" ? I could very easily be off LoL, I'm not ths expert in poodle color history :)
Got bit by the bug!!!! and went on a research rampage.... check out this website I found with a little bit of history on the parti poodles.
http://www.caninehorizons.com/Parti_Poodle_History.html

It's like society goes through dog breed phases... not to long ago the doberman was a big hit... and every jack and their mother had to have a dobe.
It kinda seems like it's the hybrid/designer or what ever they call it now breeds that gets all the attention now?!?!?!

So, what your saying Wonderpup is that you can register a red or parti... but doesn't mean that you can show them in confirmation... it states on the breed standard that parties are disqualified?!?!?!
(Sorry... I'm new to this AKC business)

When I registered my Parti Girl I just check off Cafe Au Lait since they don't accept Partis for breed showing its not important to specify if the dog is of broken color. They just need to know the base color.
OK... so you can register any color the breed comes in (or that they have listed)... but not show all the colors that you can register (if I have this right)...which brings me to my next question... can you show - for breed - red poodles? (if it's a dark red - and clearly not apricot)
