I've read in several places that a little bit of pumpkin was healthy for dogs, especially to combat diarrhea. I added a couple tablespoons to both dogs food two days in a row and now Max has awful diarrhea. Either it is coincidental or pumpkin does not do well for him. I woke up this morning to messes everywhere and he always asks to go out.

Has anyone ever tried pumpkin before? Needless to say, we'll avoid it for now.

We used to use pumpkin as a filler for one of the minis - actuall squash butternut - and she did poop more so my daughter stopped. I gave pumpkin to them all the other nite and had no problems but not a lot. Its supposed to be good for them. ?

I've understood it to be when they have loose stools to give a little of true pumpkin instead of the food to help firm it up. I haven't tried it on dogs but it worked like a charm on rabbits.

I read that canned pumpkin was ok as long as it has no other ingredients. This may have been coincidental. Who knows. If he's not better tomorrow I'll call the vet.

Sorry - that is what I meant - true canned pumpkin vs. any time of pumpkin filling (like for pies).

Right. That's what I thought. Anyhow, I'm not too worried. He seems perfectly normal. I'm sure he'll be fine tomorrow.
