[Raven in the Sky]

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help, I’m new to grooming. I bought a new Oster 10# blade to replace the original because I thought the first blade was dull. The new blade lasted for one grooming session and now just fills up with hair and doesn’t cut. I do oil the blade before, during, and after use. I wipe the blade and clear as much hair as possible also. Any advice? Are there some specific steps I should be following? Thanks!

This is not my experience with Oster blades but are you bathing and drying your pup before clipping?
Also Oster Kool Lube which is a a coolent and oiling spray. . Cools the blades wonderfully. You might want to what I have done which is to buy 2 of the blades you want so you can switch them out when they get hot.
The other thing I would suggest is trying a longer blade first then use the 10# blade. I use a 7 Skiptooth and a 7fc. A skiptooth looks like an alien tool-LOL but the Skiptooth willl plow through most anything.

If the clipper isn’t new, it might be the motor needing adjustment, not the blade. I had the same problem but instead of buying/sharpening the blade, I got a new clipper. Eventually I will have the clipper repaired, if need be. Or buy a new blade, who knows.

I had this problem with an Andis blade, and the retailer is sending me a replacement. I knew it wasn't a clipper issue, as my old blade works fine.

Thanks! I think having two blades may be helpful. I’ve been using the attachment combs, since I’m such a novice, so I haven’t checked to see if the blade is getting hot. I have been bathing and drying Raven before clipping, we live in the High Desert and it’s often dusty, so her coat gets loaded with very fine dust. And maybe I should try some other blades, like a 7fc.

Hi, my clipper is less than a year old. It’s an Oster lithium-ion cordless. I think it should be okay, at least I hope it is, given the price of the thing! I may buy another new blade .... if I can’t figure out what the problem is. I bought a new blade when my original started clogging and this new blade has been through one grooming session, such an aggravation.

Then it might still be under warranty. If so I would call the company and arrange to send it back for repair.
