My pup is almost 6 months (time flies!), and I have been preparing for her first heat. Do you have any tips and tricks? Also, do you just have your dog potty outside like normal? Is there anything I need to know? It's my first time doing this. I may just be overthinking things but...

Take a stroll through my experience with Basil. Pictures and all.

And yes, go potty outside like normal.

I would stick as far as possible to your usual routine, but keep her on leash outside the house, unless you have a very secure garden. Avoid walking where you are likely to meet entire males, and try not to walk from the house if you are in an area where male dogs may follow you home.

Apart from that washable throws and panties are your friends!

Just get some doggy panties with a hole for the tail and wait to see how it goes. Every dog is different. Some you wouldn’t even know they’re in heat. Others will have temperament changes, get depressed, etc.

Make sure no dog gets close to her as an accident can happen very fast !
