I've had my puppy since christmas 08, and he's about 5.5months now... but we're having a difficult time potty training him on the pad. He pee's fine on the pad, but when he goes to poop, he always walks off the pad, and his poo always ends up off the pad. and yes it's better to take him outside, but we got him when he was small, and when winter was around, so we decided to keep him on the pad. any help???

i never thought that they had that....
i just thought they were for cats but.
i'll give that a try and we'll see what happens.
but just to let you know... my puppy seems to eat
everything! ...
i took him home, and he was outside, and he ate all the leaves
he could get his nose into.
we went to my inlaws,
and somehow his nose got into my mother inlaws pot of plant,
and he ate half of the plant and dirt.

You might need to be fairly careful if he is a plant chewer. There is a huge list of plants that are harmful, some fatal to dogs. I was amazed at how many common plants were on the list. Can't find it at the moment but if you google toxic plants for dogs or something you should get some idea. Mind you he might just like the feel of dirt under his paws
... good idea, thank you i'll google it

Hi Lady Luck,

Did you ever figure out how to get your dog to poo on the pad? I'm having the same problem....he poos in 3 different spots on the pad (all in one sitting), but sometimes he is sitting on the pad and MISSES! ..and it ends up on the carpet. Sometimes he misses when peeing, too...
hi,
yeah i dont know whats up with my dog these days anymore... it might be the other dogs influencing it or something, but he NEVER NEVER NEVER goes on the pad anymore..... we do take him outside more now, and he knows how to poo outside, but when we're out for a couple of hours.. no pee. no poo. and i KNOW he must have his own secret hiding spot on which he poos and pees. i try to get him to pee on his pad but he wont, there's this time, i was in the same room as him and he just peed freely on the corner of the bed. i got so frustrated and angry with him because he was only a foot away from the pad! i did yell at him and had everyone ignore him for the next 20 minutes..
not sure why he acts so weird now. but i SWEAR it's my inlaws dogs that messes him up. those dogs (inlaws dogs) have no manner at all. they piss all over the damn house. they bark at every person who walks into the damn door, even if its family. they've even nibbled on a couple of people, but their parents dont discipline them at all.

so yeah my dog, he thinks he's TOO GOOD to use the pads now.
