Does anyone else find that other poodle owners(esp standards) have a special bond? I am stopped ALL the time by fellow poodle owners. When ever they see me they stop and want to talk about our spoos!! I just love it!! I also find myself stopping them. The other day while on our walk a lady circled the block and then pulled into the church parking lot so that she could comment on Dutch, and that she too were a spoo owner! I just think it is neat what joy these animals bring us.

I actually find this to be true of dog people in general. I get stopped by nearly every other person with a dog, regardless of the breed of their dog. They always say how beautiful Murphy is, how white her coat is and comment on her lovely groom. Many of them ask where I get her groomed, even if their dogs don't need clipping. Of course, if it's another spoo owner, the conversation might be a little longer :smile:

speaking of how beautiful spoos are.......the other day we were at the park and a bunch of little(4-6yr olds) kids said look a poodle!! Then I over heard one little boy say, "Poodles are UGLY!" It was too funny!! Obviously he had heard this somewhere!! I got a chuckle out of it!!

I don't notice this with people who have toy or mini poodles... but let a spoo owner walk into the salon and notice Jazz it's like meeting a long lost friend. They almost always become instant clients too, which is good for business. Whenever we got ot the dog park people always talk to me about Jazz because so and so in their family or groupd of friends have or had a poodle. Even then though I usualy get more conversation from people who know a spoo personaly.

Walking the dog

This past sat,in Gulfport Florida (near St Petersburg) the largest Florida rescue gathering happened. Over 40 Rescue groups of ALL breeds had boths set up on the main street 5 blocks long. I walked my blackstandard with her diamonds shinning in 80 degree sunshine . SHE does stop traffic.Even Florida Poo Rescue had to come ck her out. Her red nails did the trick! Only saw one fight between 2 170 pound Danes. Sure clears the street!

I live in a small town and believe my guys are 2 of maybe 4 spoos in town. Anyways i was walking them one day and a lady had circled the block came around got out and started crying. Her spoo had just passed away at the vet the week before during a teeth cleaning and she just wanted to cuddle my guys. We talked for some time and I told her to look on kijiji for another and anyways she stopped at my store where I work and told me they ended up getting a rescue breeder girl from the people who raise them for the blind. She was a special girl who I met but didn't like the husband and has nipped someone at the nursing home. WEIRD I know not a good breeding stock but anyways They love her now and she is doing better with them and starting to be a dog.I so would love to meet other poodle owners just not many in my town.

Another thought that just occured to me;

Do any of you who have spoo have people stop you to ask WHAT kind of dog you have? People who do not have poodles ask me all the time what kind of dog Jazz is. I think to myself uhhhhhh curly hair, pointy nose, clean face, clean feet, poof on the end of the tail.... WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS?!?!?!!!!!

People often say "Is he a poodle?" and then follow it up with "I didn't know they got that big!" We are a small country town and as far as I know there is one toy poo who's owner doesn't take him out in public much if at all and the T Dog in our town, so our community doesn't get much exposure to the wonderful world of poodles.

Yes.

99% of people who stop to pet or play with Moose ask what kind of dog he is. Most have NO CLUE he is a poodle.

I get that one too Bluefox, wow she sure is an oversized poodle... LoL.

How funny that poodles are so popular in the smaller sizes yet when they see a standard people act like they've never seen a poodle before in their lives. LOL. :)

I have gone out of my way to speak to other poodle owners. I am also one of the only Spoo owners in my area. Many people are shocked to hear he is a poodle, because he is so big...one guy said that his mom had a "real" poodle, as if he thought Sammie must be a mix.
Some people do not seem to be aware that the show clips are haircuts, and don't actually grow that way. :confused:
