Other breeds?

Of course poodles are the best breed in the world, and no others compare! ;) Does anyone else have a list of "someday" breeds like me? I will always have a poodle, but i would like other breeds in the future too. They could even be a breed that you love, but know you could never own for some reason.

Here are mine.

Doberman - Always have wanted one, and it will be my "next" dog breed

Dogo Argentino - Again, have always loved the breed, and i hope someday i will be able to own one

Belgian - No sure which varitey yet though.

Irish Wolfhound - Have fallen in love with the breed after meeting some very nice boys.

Vizsla - I have a friend who has them, and i just love them.

I have lots of other breeds i like/love, but these are the ones i Plan on having someday (and think i could actually Live with!).

I have always wanted a French Mastiff, dogue de beaudoux, like Hooch!
Barbet - we met these last year, and they were very sweet looking with wonderful temperaments
Funny, I was just introduced to this breed over the Thanksgiving weekend :canada: My brother and his wife just moved into their new house, (west of Toronto in the country), and their next door neighbors have just started breeding Barbet! He was just telling me how they've flown all over the world to buy breeding stock... I guess from what my brother was telling me, their numbers are dropping, something like only 1000 Barbet dogs left in the world!! Very cute, kinda looks like a cross between a PWD and a Poodle!!

I want one now too!!

I've already had so many different dogs, I've narrowed down my list considerably. I have a black lab-will never have another one, even though I dearly love the one I have. The hair 24/7 is an absolute nightmare! I also have a boxer, whom I dearly love. We've tried rescuing 2 other boxers, but their mental damage was too much for us to overcome and we had to return them. Boxers are very high maintenance and require LOTS of exercise and attention. Again, I dearly love our boxer-he's one in a million, I think, but I don't know if I'll risk having another one.

I might consider a Boston terrier in the future. I hear retired greyhounds are great couch potatoes, but don't do well with children. Since my daughter will probably having children in the next couple of years, I want a child friendly dog.

Oh, i forgot a boxer (how could i)! I Love boxers!! I was very close to getting a boxer over a poodle, but the short life span and health problems led me to the poodle. I would love to have a boxer soon (male, dark brindled, rescue or puppy, crazy :D).
Oh yeah, I would also loooove a samoyed if they didn't shed like monsters.
I will always have a Standard Poodle lol, and a Dobermann too.

But the breeds I would someday like to have are:

Pharaoh Hound (My mother said we had one when I was 5, but he was too much)

Rough Collie -These are so beautiful, and this was our first dog (she died when I was 7ish)

Afghan Hound -I love these, they look so cool in a shorter clip. I like the tri-colourish ones with the Apricoty orange or a black and tan

Giant Schnauzer -A pure black one, they are so cool

Belgian Shepherd -Tervueren

A blue great dane

I tend to like bigger dogs, that don't weigh heaps (not sure how much great danes weigh lol)

Wow, those are quite cute! The do look a bit like small PWDs.
I've noticed it over a lot of other poodle forums too, that standard poodles and dobes seem to both be loved by the same people. More commonly I hear the saying "Poodles are just dobermanns in drag!" hehehe.

Dobes were my fav breed before I fell in love with grooming and poodles jumped up the list! lol. I still adore dobes, but not entierly sure they'd suit me with their dominance issues... I don't know that I'll ever own one, but I'll always adore them!!!

A dog I could own is a giant schnauzer though, I really like them, their whole look and attitudes seem to suit me, but in saying that I haven't reserched into the breed fully either cos they still don't compare to a spoo. heh.

I have oodles of breeds I LOVE, but 99% aren't ones I'd ever *really* want to own.
I would love a nova scotia duck tolling retriever! it's quite a name. they are gorgeous.
I noticed Giant Schnauzer came up quite a bit. Does anyone have any personal experience w/ them? I've always been drawn to them, but I've heard they're very energetic and have a high prey drive. I looked at a GS rescue website that said, "they will kill your cat!" That pretty much put them on the back burner for me, even though I'm sure it's an exaggeration. I really had it narrowed down to a Standard Poodle or GS if I got another large dog, but choose the spoo b/c they're smaller and their temperments seem more compatible w/ multipet households.

Speaking of multipet house hold, we realised the other day, with the 4 cats and the 4 dogs, that they all get along fine, and we don't have any issues between them lol

Does anyone else have any problems with their menagerie?
2 cats, 2 dogs, 5 rats and they all get along fine! Paris gets along with everyone, the terrier doesn't like the other animals in her personal space (ie touching distance) but will tolerate it if I insist she should.

I believe the Barbet was used in the development of the Poodle no?
Right now we have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and our mini Poodle.

I LOVE Corgi's! We've had 2 of them, they are great little (well sorta) dogs. Just remember they are herders so nipping could be an issue, though I've never had a problem at all. Our dream pup is a Wolfhound, which we're on a list for actually. I can't wait! We should have had one last year but they had 9 females and not one male! lol

Borzoi are awesome, laid back and beautiful. I worked with a lady who had 2 of them and a Whippet. She just said be careful because they are sight hounds.

I think if I could have anything else (price and fur aside) I'd take an Alaskan Klee Kai.
Honestly when I get married....my fiance and I decided that we're going to try and get a lab mix because he wants a lab but I don't enjoy big dogs, they actually scare the crap out of me. But I definitely think I want to get a few shelter dogs because I feel for those animals and hate to see them sitting in a cage just not getting any love.....:(
My first training dog was a Rottie named Helga, I LOVED that dog. I have loved every one I have ever met. I have no looked at Rottie breeders in years but my fav has always been Sam Houston Rottweilers. Mel is just stunning to me as is Bully.
OMG I so forgot about mel. I used to adore him in dog USA ads lol She has nice dogs. I was looking for rottie breeders and I was not impressed with a lot of kennels. Maybe if I am serious about getting one I can get one from her or a working line. I want to show of course :D

Yes , Briards , and a few other breeds.
This is my favorite rottweiler breeder. http://www.redyre.com/index.html

I was on another form with her, and she is great. Really tries to improve the breed. I love male rottweilers!
My "Wish List" of dog breeds would be

Doberman (Will probably never convince my hubby on this one)

Border Terrier

Portugese Water Dog

Greyhound

I've been owned by the worlds most amazing Black Great Dane, RIP Dehner, who survived bloat surgery to live to the age of 9 until throght cancer took his life way too soon. Belgian Sheepdogs, Boxer, Bischon (my parents), Sheltie (again, my parents). Right now we have a Golden Retreiver (stray who stayed) and a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepard and of course our poodle puppy Cash!
