Other breeds?

Of course poodles are the best breed in the world, and no others compare! ;) Does anyone else have a list of "someday" breeds like me? I will always have a poodle, but i would like other breeds in the future too. They could even be a breed that you love, but know you could never own for some reason.

Here are mine.

Doberman - Always have wanted one, and it will be my "next" dog breed

Dogo Argentino - Again, have always loved the breed, and i hope someday i will be able to own one

Belgian - No sure which varitey yet though.

Irish Wolfhound - Have fallen in love with the breed after meeting some very nice boys.

Vizsla - I have a friend who has them, and i just love them.

I have lots of other breeds i like/love, but these are the ones i Plan on having someday (and think i could actually Live with!).

I would love a boston terrier and prembroke welsh corgi someday.
Akita --> I want one, but If I had one I could not have many other pets.. so akita wouldnt work for me.

Bordercollie--> I love bordercollies. I am definantly going to get one at some point.

Leonberger--> I met one when I was a lil' kid. That doggy left an impression on me.

Lab.--> I know.. steriotypical, but again its a dog of my childhood.
Giant Schnauzer
Afghan Hound
Old English Sheepdog
Briard
Bearder Collie
Doberman
Black Russian Terrier
Saint Bernard
Wire Fox Terrier
Shih Tzu
Yorkie
Toy Poodle
Pomeranian
Another Maltese
Miniature Schnauzer

You didn't ask about cats, but I'm dying for a persian/himalayan. I've found a Persian Rescue in San Antonio and I'm contacting them the second I can have another cat.

I will always either have a doberman or poodle... but breeds I always consider getting are:

- Ibizan or Pharoah hounds - I just love the way they look.

- Rhodesian Ridgeback - my brother owned one and I've always wanted one.

- Giant Schnauzer.

- Vizla - they are neat.

- German shorthaired pointer.

- Boerboel - we owned several as I was growing up, so I have a soft spot for
them, but not enough space (which they need a lot of)

- And if they didn't shed that much... I would definitely fall for a GSD

- Borzoi - I just love their look, but will probably never own one.

It's funny, a lot of poodle people seem to be into Dobes as well. Maybe because they are really quite similar in look?

I'm really limited in breeds due to allergies but below are the ones I would be interested in:

Portuguese Water Dog (obviously based on having them for over 20 years :))

Barbet - we met these last year, and they were very sweet looking with wonderful temperaments

Havanese - my decision at the beginning of the year was between a poodle and havanese. I'm not 100% sure how my allergies would be with them so would have to check it out further.

Lowchen - I love these little lion dogs.

Tibetan Terrier - I seriously looked into these as well, but similar to the Havanese, am not sure about allergies.

I think it's more the personality for me. They are extremely goofy and love to play. They are very intelligent... if not just as intelligent as poodles - the only difference I think between them is that Dobes are definitely not for first time owners as they tend to be very dominant.

Yeah, I have met some fantastic Dobes. One of my two favourite YouTube stars is a Doberman - the other is a chihauhua. Ramsey and Pablo are awesome.

I'm totally with you on the Doberman- I LOVE them, and was actually really looking into one before I found Desmond. I think a Dobe may be my next breed, but I also want a:

Border Collie! I have fallen in love with these as well, their drive astounds me and I would love to have one one day.

Ibizan Hound. I am, without a doubt, getting an Ibizan hound at some point in my life. :) If I can get one as my next dog (probably can't, but I am hoping) then I will JUMP at the chance. The big problem for me is space. I won't own my own property for a long time, and I don't want to get one of these if I can't exercise them properly, so I'm waiting until I buy a house with a yard.

Pharaoh Hound, (same with the Ibizan) I WILL own a Pharaoh Hound at one point. :) I can't wait until I am able to own one or two of these. They are spectacular in every way to me, and their personality meshes with mine perfectly. Ibizan hounds and Pharaoh hounds are probably my favorite breeds, I love them as much as I love Poodles.

I almost forgot! The Shiba Inu! My my, these dogs are amazing. I love them to death, but they are intense and I don't know how well I could handle one for a while; I'd like to get a bit more experience with dogs before I get one. I would love to have one eventually though.

I mostly like big dogs or medium dogs with strong personality. Then again, I also love Chihuahuas and Italian Greyhounds. ;) The above five are the ones that I really intend to own in the future. I love many other breeds and plan to experience a lot of different breeds of dogs in the future, but those are the five I am going to own eventually.

Like Harley said, you didn't mention cats but I have a few breeds in particular I love. The Cornish Rex stole my heart immediately and I can't wait to own one. I also love Oriental Shorthairs, Sphynx, Siamese (Modern), and Ragdoll cats. However, I usually lean towards rescuing cats, as they seem to get rescued much less frequently than dogs (in my area, cats are always available at adoption days and don't seem to be considered as often). The Cornish Rex is the only one that I plan to purchase from a breeder.

Oh, I love these two.... they were also on animal planet! I think it was actually on the dogs 101 show they aired a while back if I'm not mistaken.

I'm a sucker for dobes... and now that I'm looking for another dog (which I kinda decided on a minipoo) I keep going back to a dobe every now and again. So we'll see what happens.
I would be a total dog hoarder if I had the money to take care, and spoil all of them! ROFL!!!! ;)
Most are clearly digging the Dobs as do we! We were considering one as well before Olie. We do like the American Bulldog, Sheltie, German Sheppard & a quality Pit Bull!
I love

American pit bull terriers/amstaffs ( show and working types)
GSD ( DDR/Czech/ east german only )
Rottweilers
Dobermans
Shar-pais
Cane corsos
American bulldogs

A lot of mastiff and bulldog breeds lol

Its always been my dream to own/show a Rottweiler. I have loved the breed since I was little, my invisible friends when I was 10 were my two Rottweilers named Buster and Bell. :cute:

Pomeranian's are also a breed I would love to own. I really like grooming them :D

rottweilers are great I owned one for a few years before she passed due to old age. I been around her for over 14 years

My first training dog was a Rottie named Helga, I LOVED that dog. I have loved every one I have ever met. I have no looked at Rottie breeders in years but my fav has always been Sam Houston Rottweilers. Mel is just stunning to me as is Bully.

My Poms were honestly like going thru theropy, IN A GOOD WAY! If trained and given the attention they deserve you can come out with a great companian. I groom Coco and Aoki myself. They are low maintanance than some think, again if you take the time the first couple of months they are ideal. I try so hard to maintain that barking they are known for, Coco is pretty layed back Aoki - she's a total female like me with lots to say!

Rottys are misunderstood, they are the most gentle loving attentive dogs.

I am shocked that I didn't see a lot of papillons, not my choice  but they are becoming very popular.
If it wasn't for the hair:

I love huskies, I had one and loved him to bits, but the hair was too much.
Same with Collies, too much hair.

I was a greyhound person before Flip, they are of course wonderful dogs.

I also love our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, but I wouldn't get another one.

Whippets are intriguing as well.
I have heard alot of doberman people too say that they like standard poodles. I think it is the personality/look thing combined. I have wanted a doberman since i was little!!
I have two "future" breeds list. One that has breeds that match my lifestyle, and breeds that I would LOVE to own but don't match my lifestyle.

future breed list (match lifestyle):
- Greyhound
- whippet
- smooth merle collie
- giant schnauzer

Future Breed list (don't match lifestyle):
- border terrier
- australian shepherd
- doberman
- greater swiss mountain dog
- akita
