I saw this over on the site that tests safe car seats for dogs. Hoping it will help Ollie get over his car sickness and fear. And those dogs look so happy, that I’m guessing it will be that way for him, too. Can’t wait!!

I have to honestly say, that I don't think either of my dogs would like that, but i wouldn't know until I tried it. The dog in the pic looked pretty comfy in it.

Zekefur was horrible in the car for the longest time. I don't know how often you take your dogs in the car, or where you take them, but I found that if I took Zeke out on short rides, with the other dog, that he started doing better after a while. He was even happier that our short rides ended up at some kind of drive thru, usually to get a little bit of ice cream to take his mind off the car.

Finally, one day I took him to the groomer, and while he still panted, the drooling and vomiting didn't come. To this day he will pant, and is still a little nervous, but he is so much better.

But the car seat looks pretty neat if the dogs are comfy in them. I want one of those things to wear in the front of my chest, lol. I'd love to carry either one of mine around in it with me!

I have to agree - both of mine would be miserable held in that position, and I think the complete constraint would have added to Sophy's car sickness. What worked for us was weeks of desensitising and counter conditioning - starting just sitting in the car with the engine off, and very gradually building up to short trips to happy places. I also had to change my driving style and consciously avoid twisty roads, as well as sudden starts, stops and turns. The final break through was a comfortable crate on the back seat, where she can safely settle down. Poppy travelled in the crate from day one, and never had any problems with car sickness, but it is such an idiosyncratic thing that could just be her, rather than the travelling mode.

I own and use The sleepypod harness. It was a game changer for me. I had to both desensitize my dog to driving in the car which got over her fear of the car, but the sleepypod stopped the car sickness.

I have concerns about how comfortable that is for the dog as well as the back safety. With the sleepypod harness my dog can sit or lay down.....she always lays down. And she can move a little to change positions so she’s comfortable for long drives. Between classes, the park and errands my dog is in the car more than 11 hours a week. Plus we take her on long trips so comfort and safety are important.

Please report back how it’s working and if your dog loves this harness.

I’d be interested to see how this works for your dog too. My dogs travel in the back of my SUV, with a gate between them and the back seat. They don’t get car sick, e en the puppy travels fine.

The adults have a big comfortable cushion across the back cargo area and it works well. However, it’s probably not the safest because they would get knocked around if we crashed- although they would not propel towards the front of the car. The puppy is still in a metal crate in the back seat, but she will join them eventually. I guess that’s the trade off with four dogs, unless I travel in an RV, there’s a space issue.
I don't really think any of my dogs would like to be hung up like that. I just tether mine in the back seat. Hope your guy will like it.
Let us know if your dog likes it. I think I saw this on Shark Tank (or something similar) and thought about ordering it, but wasn't sure. Right now I put my dogs in a small carrier, but it's not the Sleepy Pod and I want a safer option.
But those dogs look SO HAPPY!!!!!!

Ok so I just woke up and have to confess that I didn’t really order that. I had sent it to a friend saying I ordered it and she thought that was the funniest thing ever.

Isn’t that a crazy contraption? It doesn’t look good for their back or body or legs. Yet it was one of the few things that tested safe in the car!!! I cannot imagine a dog being ok with it and mine would have heart attacks if I tried putting them in that fit even one second!

Haha! That looks horribly awkward and funny

My dogs would be miserable like that. I use a crate and that'll have to do. No car sickness...just happy travelin' dogs here. Once in a while I use a little booster seat that straps to the back of their harness and has straps that go over and behind the seat... they can sit or lie down in it. It's only for short trips.

Is that thing for real? Or is the whole thing a joke? OMG. :ahhhhh:
Yeah it's for real...it was on Shark Tank. They laughed about it as a car seat but thought it was interesting as a "carrier." I always pay attention to the pet products on that show.
Dumbest thing ever. :ahhhhh: And wouldn't work as a front carrier either. I'm all for a sling as a body carrier, but putting them in an unnatural position like that--awful.

Made you laugh though, so good for something! ?

The wording of your text made me laugh!
And there we all were trying to politely intimate that we thought you were crazy to be buying it, without offending you!

Sometimes treating dogs like children simply goes too far, and verges on abuse rather than love...

I appreciate you all trying to save me from myself! And yes, everyone was so polite! Very nice indeed.

I chuckled at the expressions on the faces of the dogs in the restraints! They do look happy.

And we do not know, maybe they actually love it. I remember looking at cradle board contraptions for human babies and not being able to imagine them liking it, but they do! So we do not really know :)
