Hi everyone.

I’m happy to join this forum of all things poodle. On August 25 my husband and I will pick up our new family member: a mini poodle puppy. After losing our 15.5 yo parti colored poodle May 1, we weren’t going to get another dog. But I soon realized that having had a poodle since 1990, I need to have another one. Life is never boring with a little dog in it. But I haven’t had a puppy so this will be interesting. Glad we’re retired because I have a feeling that this little guy is going to suck up a lot of our time. Looking forward to it! I taught my previous dogs to ring a bell to go outside and made an agility course for some fun with other neighborhood dogs. I welcome any suggestions to make the transition from the breeder to his new home easier and on socialization. TIA.

Terri

Congrats on your new pup. On gotcha day take a couple of towels that you don't care too much about that could be used as bedding. Rub them on mom and any other pups from the litter who are still there. The familiar smells can help the transition.

What a sweet puppy. Welcome. I’m sorry for your loss. They new puppy won’t replace the old, but will help heal your broken heart.

There’s some good advice in this stickie. https://www.poodle-forum.com/5-poodle-talk/182666-puppy-reality.html And use the search function too.

Your probably busy stocking up on puppy supplies.

Welcome. I am sorry for your loss but am glad that you have opened your heart to another poodle. Puppyhood is tons of work but tons of fun. Enjoy. Asta was taught to ring a bell when he needed to go out to potty. Then for awhile he was ringing all the time. He got over that stage and ever since has been very reliable with his potty bells.

His name will be Sailor. My husband and I have a 32’ sailboat and we want to take him with us when we go cruising on Lake Erie. Our previous dog, Bailey, didn’t really take to the sailboat at age 7; he was a landlubber! Fortunately, we have friends who thought of Bailey as their dog so if we wanted to go away, they were more than happy to take him. They called it going to Camp Oh Boi Oh Boi. One time I came back from a trip and Bailey had made me a macaroni necklace at camp.

I’m new at this so please bear with me. I replied with his name of Sailor, but I guess not in the right place.
Hi Terri, welcome! I'm so sorry for your loss, but also excited for you getting a new baby! I love the name Sailor. And very appropriate for your future plans with him :)
Welcome to PF! What an adorable puppy! I am sorry it had to be a loss of your dear poodle that has led you to us, but sooo glad your heart made room for another! Puppies ARE a lot of work but SO MUCH FUN too! Get that camera ready for those puppy antics to come! Don't forget to share them here!
In my 'younger days' my X and I did a lot of sailing (30' CAL) and being in S. Calif that meant every Sunday for us and a week to 10 days for sailing to Catalina Island........Dolphins and flying fish kept us company..........oh yeah, his Greyhound came too! LOL!
