Need a new camera...

I have noticed that some of you have such FABULOUS pictures of your doggies...even when they are in motion! So, I was wondering, what kind of camera do you use??
My motion pictures usually end up blurry or it takes the camera too long to actually snap the shot and I dont get the pic I want but rather the tail end of what I was actually trying to capture!

With Christmas coming up and a wonderful Hubby who hasnt started shopping for me yet (LOL) I figured now and here was the perfect place and time to ask for camera suggestions! ;)

If you want really great pics, you are probably going to need to get a digital SLR. I finally caved and got one myself, after always drooling over everyone else's photos. Like the ones where the subject is in focus and the background is blurry. I did a ton of research and decided on the Canon T2i. It is amazing quality and is also a HD video camera. You could go cheaper (don't have the video though) or more expensive, it all depends on your needs. This one seemed to have everything I wanted at I price I could justify. They now came out with the Canon T3i, which is just the newest model. It probably has more megapixels. Anyway, hope that helps! GL

Great thread!!! I think we need a 'photography tip thread' so our resident photographers can help us amateurs out! (Both taking pictures and editing in Photoshop, etc.)

I always have photography questions and then I forget them by the time I log in.

I've always wanted to take pics like Mama2FourAZ (of Lily) and like Spoowhisperer's Kai Relaxing by the Fire, etc. And who is the overseas member whose husband takes such wonderful photographs of the little red toy and her JRT pals?

I'll open one and see if Plum will sticky it in this forum. :)

If you're looking for a good Digital SLR camera, I can recommend a couple. Our first one was the Nikon D80. It takes VERY high quality photos. It's not the newest Nikon DSLR model on the market of course, but it does the job well without having to know everything about professional photography. Honestly, the D80 is a lot of camera for even someone like myself, but it can do a lot of the work for you in auto mode.

Also, we just invested in another GREAT item from Canon via QVC. I know I know, QVC...shopping network, but you can actually get some really good deals around the holidays from them. We purchased the Canon EOS Rebel T3i from QVC and it's rated a top quality camera! Would definitely recommend.

Thanks, TheBigRoo!! I love QVC! Maybe I can get one on easy pay! ;)
You're more than welcome, RileysMommy! In fact, I think the camera still is available and on 6 easy pay. That's one of the great things about buying things like that from a shopping network.

Yes, it is!! I hope it stays that way until my new cards get here! Someone stole my purse Monday night so I had to cancel all my credit/debit cards!

I have been reading reviews on that camera since someone else mentioned it earlier and had pretty much decided it would work for me! And easy pay helped my husband agree! ;)

I shoot with a Nikon DS300. Love my camera and my lens but the new lens I want is the Nikon Zoom-Nikkor Telephoto zoom lens - 70 mm - 200 mm. It carries a $1895 price tag... :( I have a 18-200 Nikor and while it is a great every day lens I drool over the other one lol

If you decide to buy the Canon I would suggest upgrading to a better lens than the 18-55 that comes with it. I would purchase the body only if you can. :)
I bought a canon because my entire family has canon's so we can share lenses!! My daughter is a professional photographer and she has a Mark II. My mom also has a Mark II. I wanted an SLR, but cant afford (and dont need) a Mark series. So I went to utube and typed in canon camera reviews for entry level SLR. I learned about the differences in the T3 and T3i. Was going to get the T3i because I wanted the flip out lens since I mostly shoot dogs and children. The T3i and the canon 60D have that. Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EOS 60D I really dont like the look of the REBEL plastered in red on that series of cameras...and the Canon 60D has a few upgrades. So I got that one...with an entry level lense on it that has a decent zoom. It looks more like the professional Mark II's :) Id say go to utube and type in canon T3 and T3i or whatever price point you are at....liseten to the reviews and decide what is important to you :) After all my researching...I REALLY want to get a canon powershot...my mom has one and its only $500.00 and its light, portable and takes as good photos of as my camera...for automatic shooting...of still subjects outside. That is my next wish list for camera stuff :) I have never even used my settings on my camera except auto...its a lot to learn! But my camera does take better action shots than the powershot! Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : PowerShot G12 here is the newst one. Good luck!!

Oh and for tips on shooting...you have to explore different angles! That is where the flip out lense/screen comes in handy. You can hold the camera all over the place ans still see what you are shooting. Dont just shoot down on top of your dog. Get down on the floor, shoot from lower, or higher..just have fun with it!
I have a Canon t3i and I love it. VERY newbie user friendly- here is an AMAZING deal- I am a super deal shopper and didn't get close to this price when I bought mine: Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

The lens that comes with it is crap. I remember reading this when I bought the kit and thinking that I wouldn't know the difference. When I bought my first "real" lens, MAN- I could see the difference! Plus I needed a zoom lens for school events. I bought this one:
Amazon.com: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo

This is what I want for Christmas:
Amazon.com: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens: Electronics

This is pretty much all I plan on buying for a while until I get better and feel like I need better equipment. Happy shopping!
