My Mum did something AWFUL! Poppy

We have got visitors and today we did lots - we went for a walk, and then we went to a sort of history thing at a railway station (there were noisy trains and Sophy didn't like them much), and then we went for a lovely long walk along the salt marshes and then we went to boring garden centre and then we had some lunch and Mum shared her bacon sandwich and then she took us to look at more plants, and then we came home. And Mum was busy talking to her friends and to neighbours and getting the plants out of the car, and she went into the house and started sorting stuff out there, and it was ages and ages later - at least 10 whole minutes - before she realised we weren't there and she had left us in the car! And we were waiting really quietly and patiently, but it was suppertime, and we were starving. Mum was very sorry, and we had a lovely supper with chicken sprinkles, but I think we need a way of making sure she never, ever forgets again, even when we are somewhere safe and comfy like the car...

Oh no...Poppy and Sophie. We're so glad at least the car wasn't in the sun or that could be spooky for sure. But thankfully she finally came to get you. And what a yummy dinner you had! I bet it was worth the wait. And your day sounds so nice....except for the boring part, wandering around a nursery. Maybe she got some nice plants for you to pee on. We love new plants. Our mom got some too yesterday and a few days before that and a week before that. She really likes buying plants. And we love sharing them. I think she likes it too when we watch over them like we do. Your walk sounds so dreamy. Glad you had a pretty good day, except for that scary part when you were left temporarily in the car. Hopefully, it wasn't too hot. We would love to see pictures some time of the salt marshes. That sounds interesting, as is all your wonderful places you get to go for walkies. Ask your mum. :amen:

Dear Poppy,

Thank goodness you and Sophy don’t live in Texas! It gets very, very hot here and sometimes dogs and children don’t survive in a closed car. Ten minutes in a cool shady place should be okay. I would make a lot of noise if the female left me in the car and I’m a quiet guy. Either we’re riding or we’re there. My FOMO would have kicked in. Might take more than chicken sprinkles...Bacon would work:)

Buck

Mia Culpa, mia culpa, mia maxima culpa.

Once 40 years ago, I took my two house dogs to the grocery store with me, off leash. I sat them both outside the store and told them to stay and not dare to move away. This, I'm told they did for 3 hours. I didn't know. I went out the back door walked home and started some job or another. 3 hours later I found the dogs missing. I realized my mistake and retraced my steps. The dogs were still as I left them and mighty relieved to see me. I went back inside the store and bought them each a high value treat. I gave them the treats where they still sat and took them home. It's true that dogs have no real time sense. They can approximate the time of day (dinner time) But elapsed time is just that elapsed. 5 min waiting is as good as 3 hours.

Dear Mr. Eric,

Your good dogs would have gotten stolen where I live. I am glad they were not stolen or in a hot car.

Buck

P.S. Say “woof” to Gracie, for me:)

Oh you poor little dears. It is way hot here, I wouldn't have made it 10 minutes. Glad your mum realized quick what had happened and boy those chicken sprinkles sound good. Your friend, Asta

Dear Poppy and Sophy,

So many years ago that your great-great-great grandparents weren't even born, Puppies often weren't kept safely and securely in cars. This allowed one advantage only-you could honk the car horn to get your Mum's attention.

This wouldn't have helped you this time but it's good to know you were remembered quickly. We're sure your Mum will never let this happen again!

Rose, Remo, and Neo

(Probably about 50 years ago, my mom drove to the grocery store and brought Missy with her. When she came out of the store, a laughing woman told mom that Missy had been honking the horn for some time, and looking in the direction of the door, as if trying to get her to come back :).)

I am glad you were found so quickly. Your mum owes you each a bacon sandwich. Tell her to cuts it up real small and share it for days and days. My dad lost Francis once. He looked up the street, and down the street, and in the park, and everywhere. Except the car. Francis was left in the car. She got extra treats. I think you should get them, too, for days and days and days and days.

Love,
Noelle

Well, it wasn't hot a bit - just right, in fact! Mum sometimes says we have to stay at home because it is hot and there is nowhere safe to leave us, it is called "Stay and be good", and when she says that we know she is going without us. But she is very well trained, and usually only goes to places where we are allowed in too!

That is a good idea about the bacon sandwiches, Noelle, but I think we may just try for chicken sprinkles every day - there is a great big jar on the counter, so we wouldn't even have to wait while Mum cooked them...

We know a dog who was left loose in the car while her Mum went to the shop and when she saw her Mum coming back she got all excited and jumped all over the car and jumped on a little button on the door and locked the car and her Mum had left the keys inside! It was hours and hours before they got home as they had to wait for the rescue man to come and open the car. Even my Mum isn't as bad as that!!
