Since about last week, my baby standard (2yo) has been way more attentive to my 14yo poodle mix. Standing next to him a lot with his head over old man’s back, up in his face, laying next to the much closer and much more often, licking his pee out in the grass (gross). I am not sure if baby dog is kind of being a jerk and bothering my old man or if there’s something he senses. Old man is not in the best health, we already know that, but it’s not new. I hear some dogs can learn to sniff out cancer, and that’s the latest probable diagnosis for old man dog. Anybody seen anything like this?

Aw. What a beauty.

This is just a wild guess, but maybe there's sugar in his urine? Diabetes could also make his breath smell sweet.

It does sound like the younger one is concerned for the older dog. Perhaps schedule a trip to the vet for your older dog? Is your older dog annoyed by these attentions, is that why you wonder if the younger is being a "jerk"?
