I am so glad you have asked this question! I had a mini as a child, (as pictured) and she was a wonderful pet. I was young, so I have asked my parents about her. They said they don't remember her having any "issues." I was 5 when we got her, and my brother was 2. She learned to do several tricks including jumping through hoops.

Anyways, now I have a daughter that is 5 and a son that is 2. My daughter has allergies, so we need an allergy/kid friendly pet. A mini seems like the best size for us. My husband is not crazy about the looks of poodles! And, I know he imagines them as being yappy dogs! I just told him today that we need to go spend some time around poodles to see if their temperament seems right for us. So, I can't really help you, but I am enjoying reading these answers!!!

I don't know where people get the idea that small poodles are yappy. Both of the ones I've had have been very quiet dogs. People have even asked me if Teddy ever barks because they've never heard him. So I have to make him bark to demonstrate that he can. LOL
I ADORED my mini! My husband has never really been around poodles, he needs to know how wonderful they are! He's a softie, and an animal lover...I think once he is around them, he will like them. We had a long-haired dachshund. When I told him that I wanted the doxie, he said, "Why do you want that kind of dog?" He agreed to let me have it. They bonded RIGHT AWAY, and he really loved her!

Little poodles do get a bad rap for some reason!
