Well whaddya know, one trip to the groomer was all it took. The shop is appointments only, one masked customer at a time, staff wears masks, good ventilation, sparkling clean steel cages while dogs wait before and after groom, and constant disinfection. As a customer, you're in and out in minutes. Despite all their Covid precautions, Sachii developed kennel cough 2 to 3 days later followed by Bella catching it from him a couple days after that.
Kennel cough is a bacterial infection and treatment, from what I've read, is to let it run it's course unless it becomes severe. Mine would have to be pretty sick to take them to the vet b/c I don't want to risk catching Covid in the vet's office. I'm not sure either what "pretty sick" looks like.
So far their symptoms are intermittent coughing with the gag several times a day, mildly warm but not really feverish, but it's apparent their throats hurt. Bella coughs less but sleeps much more than usual in a little ball that worries me, and I've seen her rest her throat on crease in my pillow. I've read thru old threads here on PF.
What are some good things to reduce the pain? I've read: Muconex DM, regular honey, and chicken soup. I have all these on hand. Should soup be given hot or cold? What about a soft ice pack? Are there any other favorites that any of you have used? Thanks.
