Keeping Fabric Toys Clean

309 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Dogs4Life
I am wondering how everyone cleans their fabric toys and how often. I have put them through the washing machine on gentle before and I also have tried handwashing them. I use detergent for people with sensitive skin. Does anyone else do anything different? Sometimes I just throw out the toys and buy new ones, but Miracle only seems to like one specific toy.

Same. Gentle cycle with hypoallergenic detergent, but I also add a measure of OxiClean. If the stains aren't too bad I'll substitute vinegar for the detergent (and still use OxiClean).

The only stuffed animals I’ve ever washed are the giant Lamb Chops, because they’re the favorites and it’s obvious when they’re dirty. I have some mesh lingerie bags, put the toys in them, and wash/dry on gentle cycle. I use the bags in case there is a seam failure.

l also use hypoallergenic detergent, and only a small amount, plus an extra rinse cycle. And no dryer sheet in the dryer. I put rubber toys in the dishwasher.

I hand wash Molly's long-lived favorite because I am afraid the machine will harm him.......and by favorite I really mean her original 'Lambchop' who is 7+years old, one eared, & mended a million times... but is still her 'baby'. The others are tossed in the machine LOL!

I am a toss in the washer on the gentle cycle too - Use All Free & Clear detergent.

Thanks for all the replies! If her alligator dies in the machine I guess I will be buying her a new one lol (I've done this once already). She has clean toys but will always choose the alligator, even if it's brand new without all the old smells! I will definitely do the extra rinse cycle...I want to make sure all the soap is out.
