Here are a few (rough!) shots of Jas after the beach. Between getting slobbered on at a puppy play group yesterday, and our visits to the beach twice a day, there's definitely a bath in his future!

If anyone has any tips on how to get a puppy interested in a ball, please let me know :). His interest level is so low that he doesn't even follow it with his eyes most times. Actually his little eyes rarely leave me! He's hard to exercise since he stays in a constant heel outside of the house. On the bright side.. I have potential to be in the best shape of my life since I have to run with him LOL.

Very sweet boy! My dogs have been ball obsessed since the beginning so I can't help you there. You can try other toys like bumpers or something with a squeak. Mitchell's favourite balls are these: http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=324
They hold up extremely well, minus the feet that get chewed off pretty quickly and the squeaker is killed as fast as possible (but thats not a bad thing because the squeak is ANNOYING).

Matrix's favourite ball is:http://www.planetdog.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=ORBEE BALL
It has lasted for a long while, but Matrix does not chew it. It bounces like crazy and you can get one that glows in the dark. It does not have a squeaker.

Don't be surprised if in a few weeks Jasper starts really coming out of his shell and really embracing puppyhood.

Jas is such a cutie!

Its good he's paying so much attention to you.. if you train him carefully, he should always be that attentive ;)
But in terms of getting him excited with the ball.. YOU need to be excited about the ball.
Perhaps you could play with it by yourself, throw it up in the air.. and whenever he looks at it, praise/treat or what have you, so then he realises being interested pays well ;)

If he does become interested in itthough, don't make the mistake of creating an obsessive/possessive dog that only follows the ball. Make him look at you if he wants something (I'm sure thats not hard !!!)

He is SUCH a cutie! I really like him.

As for the ball... Gentry isn't all that interested, unless Angus (our little dog) gets involved. Angus LOVES balls. So I play with Angus and then Gentry gets interested. Then I praise him for trying. He gets treats whenever he brings me the ball. Maybe find a dog that loves to play ball, that may help...

Ahhhh - WHAT A BEAUTY !!!! JUST ADORABLE !!!!!!!

Kitten is just dreamy-cute - how on earth you are so lucky to find and get such gorgeous pets LMAO ????????? I would have hard time not smoldering to death with pets and hugs both of them !!!! : )))))

Ball - I would first make him interested in it at home - where he feels safe and not overwhelmed with all that is happening outside - he is still a baby : ))) - and you are brave to take him places : )) - did he have all of his shots done already : ))) ???

I would sit on the kitchen floor and have a small tennis ball and roll it on the floor from hand to hand until he starts looking. He will more than likely come to you to investigate the situation : ))) ! Pet him and talk to him and say "ball" in excited voice and roll it little bit further than go an get it calling him to follow : )). NO big distances - just so he can see it is fun to follow the ball : ))). Play for a while like that and than play something else and soon he will associate a ball with fun time - with a breed so smart as a spoo - it will take a day LOL

I would than proceed with playing at hallway till he learns to happily run after it and possibly starts retrieving it : ))) and only than start using it outside : )). He is keeping his eyes on you and is taking clues from you - so I think you will not have trouble training him in general in anything you want .

Good luck : )))) and have fun !!!!

Please keep us posted about him : ))) - he is a doll !!!!

Gosh i Love that face!!! You did a great job getting nice clear pictures with a black dog! He is extreamly handsome.

One thing that Riley loves is if i teese him with the toy. I hold on to it (helps if it is longer like the wubba, rope toy, etc) and quickly bounce it between his front legs and get all excited. Then when they are really into it toss it a few feet. That should help get him into it. Riley isnt a ball dog either, but he likes other toys.

Aw, thanks everyone! You're all very sweet!

We're enjoying having a puppy in the house. As for the Toy Thief... he is a BRAT. An adorably cute brat, but still a brat LOL. Everyone is settling in nicely together, though the 15 year old Toy Poodle (Nat) is getting a workout keeping them all in their place. Jas has overturned Nat's bed twice... with Nat in it. And the kitten (Frisbee) can't get enough of Nat's ears. When Nat is sleeping in his bed the kitten sneaks up, takes both front paws and grabs the fur on Nat's ears... then runs. Kids! Luckily Nat doesn't have any qualms showing the two youngsters who is boss of this house and they are slowly but surely learning to respect that. We have also setup places in the house where Nat can go, and they can't, to escape for peace.

I'm using your suggestions to try and get Jas more excited about balls. After having a Golden Retriever everyone is convinced Jas is broken since he has no interest in balls LOL. I'm going to buy a couple of the balls listed here, too, thanks for the links!

Yep, Jasper's all set with shots for Puppy K and play group. At the last visit he was about 16 1/4" tall and 24 pounds. He's going to be a big boy I think.
