Flash is very vision-oriented. I often joke that he must be part sighthound, because his hunting/chasing instinct is always triggered by sight rather than sound or smell. He can hear a cat meow, and he'll look for it, but he'll never start running until he has line of sight. And he hardly seems to use his nose at all! Even if I drop food, he'd rather look for it than put his nose to the floor.

Has anyone else noticed this with their poodles? Or is mine just bizarre? I have never heard of sighthound ancestry in poodles, but I haven't exactly done extensive research either. I do have to admit, he does look an awful lot like an Afghan when he's wet... :)

I think its a Spoo thing. I often dont say much to Mister instead i give him hand signals because he is always watching me. He knows come, sit, lay, wait, quiet, etc. I think they needed to use their sight when hunting to watch the hunter and know what he wanted. Sort of reminds me of a herding dog lol.
