I'm not kidding when I say I've only seen a standard poodle
once in my life, they are really scarce around these parts....
but now there is one in my friggin' house! Owner surrendered
dog being too old to take care of her. She is a 4 yr. old blue
bitch foster that hubby is wanting to keep (Oh my God.)

I groomed her yesterday and she looks loads better, but
good grief...grooming a standard takes some time when
your only used to grooming tiny poos. She knows how to
sit, sit up, lie down, and shake. She IS WELL potty trained
and will not go in the house and walks on leash, also very
well mannered.

BTW, my foster Josie was adopted yesterday and Cash's
pooping problem has been solved, I caught him in the
act of literally diving into the large dog food bag and eating
until he is round and then crawling out leaving no evidence,
I'm not kidding!

If we don't keep the standard would anyone here be interested?

Pics later.

What part of AR are you in? My SIL is in Monroe, LA. She and my brother need another dog like they need a hole in the head (they have four including their own spoo), but she may be able to put the word out. She's a groomer.

I hate to say it, but were prolly going to keep her, I gave her the
continental clip yesterday, took forever and there is still things I
need to work on. She is VERY well house broken and likes to play!

Her name is Mika (Meek-a). I will get pics tomorrow guys!

Oh, boy! I have a blue boy and Dianne has a his silver sister.....we love blues! Can't wait to see the pics.

Now that you have set her pattern, it will get easier. When I first cut Billy from his puppy show coat to the continental, it too hours. Now it is a reasonable amount of time and he is so good about being groomed.

Sounds like you got yourself a really good spoo!! If you do keep her, your going to love her!

I'm glad you're going to keep her. It sounds like you're pretty attached LOL! For me at least, once they have names, it's all over.

awe, looking forward to seeing pictures too!
Mika, love the name... doesn't it mean beautiful in Japanese? We had a Ragdoll cat named Miko a long time ago and I think the Mi part of the name means beautiful... so sweet! love it!

I am very excited for you. I recently moved and am purchasing a new standard my self soon. This will be the third poodle I have trained. Where I have moved standard poodles are also very rare. I did not expect this. I did locate a breeder where I live, but I will be paying 1400.00. I even have to go to a bording state. It is a champion line, but that is not why I am making the trip. The breaders have also done a lot of research regarding the breeding lines and the health of the future pups. I also wanted a white poodle because where I have moved it is very hot and having had a inky black poodle in the north I know how heat can get to a dark colored animal. I just wrote this to let you know that I very much understand how hard it is to find standards in some parts of the country. And if your like me you will only drive so far and will not fly them in.
