About Oscar. He skips meals a lot. I found a salmon kibble that he likes, and he ate it well for over two weeks. Then I could tell he was nauseas and I gave him a little bit of Cerenia. He felt better that day, but didn’t eat until the next. He had two meals and then walked away from his breakfast again. I didn’t think he was nauseated, but I could hear the acid in his tummy, so I gave him half a famotodine (sp?). He ate an hour later like a champ, and then dinner that night. The next morning he refused again, so I did a repeat of the previous morning. He did not eat yesterday or last night or this morning. (I will be taking him to the vet next week to see why his tummy may be acting up).
So a dog will not starve itself, right? I so want to jump to mid in chicken with his food to see if he will eat, but on the other hand I want to let him get hungry enough that he will eat. Today he is not acting like his tummy is bothering him, but he just walks away. Is it ok to stand my ground and wait? Would 3 days be too long? I did this with Stella, and we battled a few months with her skipping meals, but finally she is eating every, and all of her meals.
I just want to know I’m not doing him harm. I wonder if he got fed regularly previously as he was evacuated when I got him. He has put on some weight and has some wiggle room now. I’ve also just waited dogs out in the past with good outcome. I have never before given in and cooked their meals. I just worry because he is so tiny.
What do you all think? Is it ok to wait him out for a while? I’m getting ready to feed now, so I’ll know in a few minutes if he will eat.
ETA: Omg he ate! I honestly didn’t expect he would. I just don’t know how long he will keep it up though. This has been an ongoing battle since I got him 2 months ago. Any advice?
