When I went to Arizona for 5 days, my dad was taking care of Vegas for me. They followed all my instructions very well, but didn't know how to do corrections when taking him for a walk. I told them they probably don't have to walk him while I'm gone, but they went ahead and did because they were excited to.
Well, he didn't get corrected when he pulled and they let him, so guess how he came back? Pulling like a mac truck. I had him on a martingale collar, and he was just coughing, hacking, gagging.. I was like.. "Dude.. you'll be able to breathe if you'd just stop PULLING!" And I'd correct him, and he's pull..
So we got a prong collar today.
My trainer at the store helped me fit it to him and instructed me on how to use it and how to take it on and off. We walked around the store for a bit and after two corrections (both being VERY surprising to him) he wasn't pulling at all.
I wanted to test it further, so we went for a walk in the woods. He loves chasing birds (I've up'd his prey drive for hunting) and he'd lock on to them, but he wouldn't lunge towards them like normal with the prong collar.
We went for another walk through my neighborhood later in the evening and he was a DOLL! I have got to say, I. love. my. prong. collar!
I'll eventually switch off of the prong collar all together once he realizes what the heck he's suppose to do, but for now, I'm really enjoying it!
