Hi, forum members! I live in PNW and am in the process of finding and welcoming puppy!

This forum has tons of great info; I look forward to exploring and learning a lot from experienced owners. If you have any recommendations for reputable breeders, I would appreciate it!

Until someone drops by with some specific recommendations, here's some links I keep handy. (PNW = Pacific Northwest?)

What size are you looking for? Are you looking for a pup to do activities with?
How far would you be able to travel to meet and pick up your pup? Is this your first dog?

This link should get you to pages which direct you to folks within PCA who can help with breeder referrals for your desired area.

These are AKC registered breeders but review their websites thoroughly. Look for OFA, CHIC health testing info in the site. If not on the website, ask the breeder to provide all health testing results and links (this will be on the dam and sire fyi). In fact, do that with any breeder you make contact with. A quality breeder will not hesitate to show the health documentation.

All the breeders listed here are required to do appropriate health testing in order to list on that site.

Breeders here all do appropriate health testing.

Another site with multiple breeders listed. Use the same caution.

Most of us aren't breeders and don't have poodles for the purpose of showing, they are our loving companions. We are grateful tho to the breeders who do take the time and spend the money to show and health test their dogs so we can have our healthy and well bred pets.

There are some sub forums here where you can find discussions of breeders recommended, and some, not so much. They're listed at the top of Poodle Talk.

If you use the Search at the top of any page, use Advanced search for breeders in your area.

Contact a few breeders to introduce yourself. Even if they don't have or don't offer what you're looking for, it can be a close knit community. They may know where to refer you.

Thank you Rose and Poos!

Thank you very much for sharing some great information, Rose and Poos! Yes, PNW is pacific northwest, and I am hoping to travel a few hours, or even take a plane - while I prefer less travel because I assume it can be stressful for a puppy.

We are looking forward to finding our first dog! I've been dreaming about it, and recently our apartment changed its policy and to allow dogs. So I am very excited to do my research and find a healthy puppy. Because we live in the apartment, we are looking at smaller sized pups, toy or miniature.

I will definitely use your info, reach out to breeders and peek at this forum. Thank you very much for taking the time to share some great information!!!

You're very welcome. We have several members in your region, so I hope they'll drop by with some recommendations.

Look at the Canadian Kennel Club also. Importing might be an option. Not as close as you'd like, but Minnesota has a number of breeders. One of them, Safranne, joined PF a few months ago. They and their dogs are well thought of.

Most of us find that as we learn more about what to look for in a breeder and in a pup, our search parameters expand by necessity, to find the pup we want and the breeder who will stand behind you all thru your pup's life.

Happy searching and look at these threads too, if you haven't already

Post your quest in the Poodle Talk sub. You're likely to get more responses :).

Wow!

Thank you Rose n Poos for additional info! I found both threads very informative, especially the puppy reality thread. Great that I get to learn lessons from others before jumping in.

I did not think about Canada, but it is definitely doable - I will extend my search!

Thank you again, have a great weekend!
