Hi,

I am new here and was wondering if anyone else has problems with their poodles constantly chewing/biting on each other. My 2 standards Savanna is 2 yrs. old and Vegas will be 1 soon get along no growling or serious biting but when they play they are mouthy to the point of pulling each others ears and fur out. They will also pin each other down by the neck. I have heard this may be a "dominance" thing. Right now both of them should have much longer ears but they chew them off. It's crazy and I have tried everything. They get plenty of exercise, I walk them together which is hard, a mile a day. They will lay down for a while and then they are back at it again. I can take the constant playing that is fine, but not biting each other ears. I watch Ceasar Milan getting 2 dogs together in Harmony Ha! It looks so easy but unless I am right there with them every minute saying "leave it" as soon as I walk away they are at it again.
Right now I keep Vegas gated in the kitchen when I cannot be right there with them. I was hoping this was just a puppy thing with him since he does seem to be the instigator. I will also be getting him neutered soon so maybe that will help.
Any ideas?????

My standards -which are 3 are constantly playing like this. I have to yell at Teddy because he is the one that bites Ginger's leg of ear etc and I don't like it either. He gets rough and I think he doesn't realize that he might be hurting her. Have to be right there with them also. I will crate him if he won't settle down. This winter is espcially bad because they don't want to stay outdoors long - its too cold! but I havent' even been ab le to walk them since Jan. Last week I took them int he woods and they had a ball! Out there Ginger is faster lol

Well,
I feel a little better knowing that other poodles do the same thing!
It must be a poodle thing . I shouldn't have watched the video clip of Gunther playing with his friend that is how I thought Savanna and Vegas would play but no not my two. They are just like my 2 kid's always picking on. each other LOL

Moose and Rusty do this too.

They do it until they pass out!! Then they are laying in the muddy grass next to each other, and even when they are tired sometimes laying down near each other they nip at each other.

Lately they've been running and chasing more but often it looks like mountain goats ramming at each other nipping, rolling, and when they are done both of their necks, and ears are soaking wet with slobber.

A month or so ago moose got nipped in his tongue, dripped a little blood but he sure didn't know or care!!

P Nalitt, I too am from California. Now live in Central Ca. but was born in So. Ca., in fact in San Diego, and raised in all Southern Ca. towns. I think that you will love the weather there, if you like warmer weather. I do. I really do not like the weather here in Central Ca. during the winter time, hate all of our tulley fog here in this valley. My niece is from this Central Ca. valley, she married a young man who too was in the service and got stationed in San Diego, so she moved on the base there to be with him and fell in love with the climate there. Good luck with your new move.
