Hello Everyone,
my son is getting a toy poodle or shall I say our family is getting a dog. We are all excited and frightened a little bit as well. We never had a dog and now we will have a puppy.
I will be asking a lot of questions soon as we all newbies to it. Please be patient with us.
Welcome, Payton Astro! How exciting. Please post some photos when the new pup arrives

I'll drop in some links to supply lists compiled by members. There will be some repetition. Do come back after reviewing if you'd like more elaboration or name brands recommended. Come back regardless We all get happy when puppies arrive!
For toys especially, hypoglycemia can be a life threatening issue. I'll add the link to that stickied thread too.
Toy-breed dogs are not only at risk for hypoglycemia, they can die from the low blood sugar disorder if they do not receive prompt treatment. When a dog’s blood sugar, or glucose, level drops, it can affect neurological function. Disorientation, tremors and coma may occur. Normally, hormones...
I usually search the past posts to get my answers but "buy puppy" ends up with a lot of breeder and buying a puppy posts. And that's not what I am looking for. So if there is already a post of all that I need to prepare for a standard puppy, please send me a link and ignore here. :) I'm not...

Hello Rose n Poos
Thank you very much for the wealth of information it would take me hours to collect so much info. I truly appreciate your links and information
I would suggest getting the puppy a little older. At least ten weeks old. More and more breeders of toy sized dogs keep them until they are 12 weeks old. This extra time with their mother (and hopefully littermate) will give the puppy time to learn bite inhibition and be well started with housebreaking. He will be more confident, as well.
With a tiny dog you really have no window of learning to potty outside, like you do with a golden retriever. He must NEVER be in a situation where he will pee inside. Train him immediately to sit at the door when you take him outside. This will become his "I gotta go!" cue. Wee pups also have problems with their teeth setting. Give him RAW chicken wing tips to chew on to help his teeth set. You can use the wings as a reward for potting outside and keep him out while he chews.
