Hello! I'm a to-be owner looking for my first dog sometime in the next 3-4 years. I've been doing a ton of research and I've concluded that it would be better for me to get an adult dog rather than start off with a puppy. Standards have really caught my eye as their temperment, coat, energy level, and pretty much everything seem perfect for my lifestyle!

I'm super nervous about choosing a breeder. With a puppy there's a bit more leway but with an adult I need to make sure I choose a breeder that has crate trained, leash trained, housebroken and has socialized the puppy (grooming/other dogs) well or otherwise it might be even harder than having a puppy!

Right now I'm just doing a very preliminary search and going by word of mouth until I can dig a bit deeper. With shows being cancelled, I can't really go in person and ask questions and I also feel like it would seem intrusive?

Anyway, to anyone here that has gotten a retired adult/a young adult who ended up not being suitable to breed because of a physical flaw, which breeder (in NA) did you work with and what has been your experience with your dog? Thanks in advance!

I have over the years have had three retired breeders and one show prospect fail although he was 18 1/2 weeks too tall, my girls were 6, 7 and 8 years old when I got them.
All were delightful
