This was posted on craigslist about a Hartz flea medication that a girl claims made her dog pretty ill. She looked in to Hartz and realized they have a bad hidden reputation. I personally dont know how true this is but just thought Id pass it on just in case.
hello everyone on CL. i am a bonafide animal lover, pet owner, and animal specialist who wants to share something important with others like me so please dont start saying mean things to me out of nowhere, because i did nothing wrong. well here is my story. we just adopted a dog named Joey from here on CL from a wonderful family. he's a doxie mix and an amazing dog. according to the previous owners, he has no health problems, and is a very active dog. which was true, as we had him very thoroughly checked by our family vet, and he cleared with flying colors. we have been observing him everyday, and nothing has gone wrong so far. until we put flea meds on him. we are on a tight budget right now, because of bills and rent being due, so we had to buy over the counter. we bought Hartz Ultra Guard and figured it would be fine, because we have always used it on all our other animals before, and nothing had gone wrong. i put flea meds on all the animals on the same day so i can observe for any signs of allergy. my cats had no problems, and my German Shepherd pup had nothing going wrong, and neither did Joey. then BAM! just 30 mins ago Joey had a violent seizure that lasted 2 minutes. it happened out of nowhere. but like 2 hours before he vomited a bit, and resumed playing with his toys. we were worried, but all dogs vomit out of the blue at times. we fed him canned food and gave him water. everything went dandy and then the seizure happened while we were watching the end of the puppy mill exposure on animal planet. so imagine our panic! we picked him up and set him on the floor, (he was on the sofa with us previously), and i ran to get scissors to chop off his flea collar. because that was the first thing i suspected. my roommate held him and then i ran to the bathroom to fill the tub with water to bathe him to remove the flea meds that were on his underfur. he immediately started to get better and we dried him and fed him a bit more. and he was fine! all day he was fine til a while ago, and now he is acting as if nothing happened. im pretty darn sure the flea meds had something to do with this, because this dog has been fine since we got him. all our animals havent had any problems, but Joey did. and that scared us enough. so he's going to the vet tomorrow, first thing. and also i started to do some research online. and i found a website called
www.hartzvictims.org and it exposes Hartz and all their products and what they have done to their animals. i had NO IDEA that this company had so many lawsuits against them!!!! and i had no idea that their products hurt so many animals! none of my other pets had any problems before, just Joey. so i dont want people on here to accuse me of being a bad owner or any other b.s. because i am not. i had no idea that this company had such a bad hidden reputation. i trusted their products like everyone else did. now i know never ever to buy anything from them ever again! i am shocked and afraid and i thought i would share my story with pet owners on here so they can avoid a bad experience on behalf of Hartz aka Hurtz. please help stop this company from continuing to do this to innocent pet owners and pets. visit the site and help stop them and share your stories. nobody should have to find out the hard way like we did. please spread the word, and by doing so you may help save a life. thank you for reading and dont buy Hartz products! they're EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
