Hi all,

I came here long ago looking for grooming tips. I have a Giant Schnauzer. I figured if anyone knew tricks & tips on grooming, it would be Poodle people. Granted hair texture is certainly different but some things translate nicely so I found this forum & started reading. I'm an info junkie, a true nerd, & I kept reading. Of course, I am the same odd duck who is looking for a Standard Poodle with the natural instinct to be a guardian. I am patient. So I keep looking. Through this forum I've met a nice breeder in Russia. Lots of complications with getting the puppy imported here from Russia but still, she gave me bloodlines to look for plus I met a nice breeder.

But my purpose for making this post is to thank everyone who generously shares information on this forum. Over the years I've been a member of several forums for both dogs & horses. Many of them have shut down. Some were places of virtual bloodbaths (many working dog forums & horse forums are vicious). I didn't stay there long as it's a waste of time. But there are rarely places like this forum that are a virtual fountain of knowledge that can keep an info junkie like me preoccupied for a long time. But this type of sharing only benefits our dogs. I imagine there are tons of people who have popped in & learned a little something whether they've registered or ever returned or not. So for all this, I say thank you. You have a special thing going on here. And a huge thanks to the moderators because I know it's a big job you do but you've done it well here.

I started out grooming Giant Schnauzers and switched to Poodles also. Do you still have Schnauzers? My last one died not long after I got my first Standard Poodle, who has just turned three. I think Poodles are really easier to groom than Schnauzers (pet grooming). Good luck with getting your puppy!

I don't yet have my Standard Poodle yet but I'm searching. I still have my Giant. She is 8 years old now. Her breeder taught me how to groom my Giant (via dvd) & it's not all that hard, just time consuming. I keep her like a show dog except I clip her instead of strip her. I tried to transition her to stripping & her answer was... I found her up on the grooming table with my clippers in her mouth & she was grrrrrrr-woofing at me. The message was pretty clear, "get this mess off me". So I pretty much laughed the whole time I clipped her in her normal pattern & she's a happy camper.

I stripped one of my dogs while he was a youngster and we made a brief try at showing in conformation. I'm not much of a handler, and had to neuter him just after he turned two, after that he got clipped too. He was neutered only because he developed a big lump on one of his testicles. I really miss my big guys!

So glad you have been able to learn here! I love giant schnauzers. I think it is amazing that you thought to come to a poodle forum for grooming advice even without owning a poodle. I don’t think I would have had that insight. Good luck getting your new puppy!

I have similar experience to share!!

2 years ago when I first adopted Toby, I had to google everything that I am unsure of, from food that they can eat to grooming to sickness etc. Often times I stumble across this forum and I often find myself clicking to read more!

This year when I got Ariel, I googled "how to take care of poodle puppy" or "can I feed raw to my puppy/how much to feed a poodle puppy" (or something of similar context), I stumble upon this forum again. That is when I decide why the heck not that I join since I often end up here?

Once I joined, I have so much fun sharing and reading all the information available here. I just love how this forum increase my knowledge so much about poodle to the point I can share it toy local poodle club. I am really thankful to meet everyone here, and thankful to Google for guiding me here in the first place!
